College Prowler Take
As an important part of MU, the Department of Public Safety, functions to affect a safe environment for members of the University community to live, work, and study. There is a highly visible presence both on and off campus, as well as sponsorship of safety education, which encourages solid habits of safety from both students and faculty. Students admit that the cost of being located in a major city is that Marquette is located near a rather shady area, especially on the outskirts of the official campus grounds. Yet, the occurrences of threats to personal safety are not frequent, and if you use common sense, there is no need to worry.
The primary objectives of student safety programs include placing safety escorts and transports throughout campus, observing and reporting suspicious or unusual activity, and providing an active presence in the off-campus area. They know there is a potential safety problem, and they want to help keep students safe. The University’s residence halls are kept safe and secure by having residents pass a reception desk and swipe an ID card in order to get in. The desk is staffed with student receptionists during the day and into the early evening. At night, Public Safety officers operate the reception desk.

I Feel Safe
B+
I have haven't had any problems on Marquette's campus, though due to its location, it is unwise to be walking alone at night, especially if you are female. Normal precautions work just fine. Be smart, keep an eye on your stuff and everything is fine.

Too Safe...
A+
Downtown Milwaukee poilce officers do not play at all, especially when the city mayor Tom Barret works at the city hall. High tech self help security systems that can alert officers if someone needs assistance by pressing the alert button. Now you can't tell me that's 19th century

I haven’t had any major problems with those in Marquette’s immediate community. Public Safety seems to be effective in controlling security on campus, and major crimes on campus are generally few and far between. Overall, I feel safe on campus. As long as you use common sense, you’ll be fine. |

Campus is very safe. They have LIMOS (shuttle vans) that can transport you anywhere you want to go on campus, so you don’t have to walk. Blue-light phones are located all across campus, too. Just pick one up and it automatically connects you to campus security, and they can send a LIMO or an escort to you, wherever you are. It’s a safe campus, but you still need to use common sense. |

Safety and security on campus are...
Safety and security on campus are very good. I’ve walked the campus a lot late at night, especially during my freshman year, and I’ve never felt that I was in any danger. We also have these blue-light phones that you can use whenever you feel that you may be in danger. You press the button and a cop is automatically dispatched to the area to check things out. |
