Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

After a long week of stressful studying, it’s no wonder why Marquette students love the nightlife! Who wouldn’t want to go out and grab a cold one at a local campus bar or take a trip down to the infamous Water Street? At such a prestigious and academically demanding school, the nightlife and bar scene must be—and is—top quality. Milwaukee and its residents love their beer. Milwaukee was once known as the beer capital of the world, and certain local restaurants, such as Water Street Brewery and Rock Bottom, brew their own specialty beers.

For most students, the typical nightlife happens on Friday and Saturday nights, but for a select few, the addition of a Thursday night comes into play. Then, of course, some students think, “Heck, why not go out every night?” However, the percentage of students who feel the need to partake in the “life is a party” credo is small, so the typical party nights for the majority of Marquette’s student population are Thursday through Saturday evenings. Parties on campus do take place, and most, if not all, freshmen get involved with the on-campus party scene because they are underage and lack legal IDs. However, due to Milwaukee’s weather issues, the likeliness of more than a handful of parties going on at once is rare. Most sophomores, juniors, and seniors enjoy their time at the bars.

Great If of Age, There If You're Looking

Milwaukee is a huge bar town, so students 21 and up have a variety of options available to them. For underage students, house parties are popular, though I'm not terribly fond of them myself. Keep in mind that the university has a 'presence' policy that lands students in hot water if they are even in the vicinity of alcohol. The school and student organizations also sponsor many late-night options as well, and most are pretty well attended.

Go to the Bars

The house parties are always the same: hot, sweaty, and over-priced. The bars are ok, Caff's is cleaner than Murph's, but Murph's has a little bit more going on.

Fun on-Campus Bars and Houses

Most students party in dorms, at houses or at the bars on campus. Some go to Water St. Lots of variety--piano bars, irish bars, etc.
