Best Time to Look for a Place

The best time to look for apartments is late fall to the end of the fall semester. Most students have already signed their contracts before going home for Christmas break. but there is no need to panic if you haven't—since only juniors and seniors can live off campus, there is housing for everyone.

Popular Areas 2040 Lofts is a popular apartment complex for students. The lofts are modern and trendy, but so is the price tag. A lot of students also live in a variety of different buildings on streets that are a little bit off campus. All of the apartment buildings are close together and close to campus, so it still feels like you are in a college community.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Only Marquette juniors and seniors are able to live in off-campus apartments or houses, so the competition is not all that demanding. Some students choose to commute, and a few choose to remain in residence halls as juniors or seniors. Marquette provides students with ample information about off-campus housing in the Tenant Guide, which is available for download through the Office of Residence Life website. The guide includes a listing of possible apartments and houses and includes rents, room types, utilities, and distance from the heart of campus.

While the push to quickly find an apartment or house off campus is not as vigorous as it is at other universities, it never hurts to get an early start. The more on top of things you are, the better off you will be. The best advice is to start your search early—knowing where you’re going to be living next year gets rid of at least one nagging worry for this term! Similar to the dorms, apartment types range from down-and-dirty all the way to clean-and-classy. Either way, off-campus housing has its perks.

Off-Campus Okay

The worst part of living off campus I have noticed is the distance from classes. There is a lot of availability of campus but the good ones go fast! The prices seem reasonable compared to the $10,000 a year in the residence halls. Plus living with your friends adds much needed simplicity.
