MassArt is definitely not a strict campus. To be kicked out of the dorms it takes getting caught three times. There are rules that need to be followed, but its not that hard to get along. A lot of students bend the rules, but within limits. (Some students manage to be kicked out anyway, though.) The most common offenses are when people get caught for smoking or drinking in their room. After being caught once, RA's usually check up on those people more often. Campus police seems very relaxed, but it doesn't mean they're not watching.
Students usually don't get in trouble for breaking small rules if they are smart about it. In Smith Hall, for example, those who are not in the kitchen suites are not allowed to have any heating appliances, but many the students ignores this rule. As long as RA's don't find out, students don't get on trouble. And if they do, they just have it taken away.
