Being a member of the MCLA recognized Greek life I can say the following. We are highly involved in the community. It is actually mandated in our constitution that we do a minimum of 12 philanthropies each semester. That being said we are always seeing members of other Greek organizations at most of the same philanthropies so we know that they are actively involved as well. Our relations are seen as very good. All the Greek life on campus has great relations with each other and are actively always trying to better these said relations through things such as our Inter Greek Council meetings and having socials and so forth. Each year we raise +$5000 for our fundraiser we have been doing since the fraternity started back in the 80's and drive to Boston to present the money to a sponsor child provided by our contact in the Cystic Fibrosis wing of the Boston Children's Hospital. We are mandatory to serve library hours each day and can almost always be found in a certain section of the library at certain times of the day. And of course we get to celebrate a lot in-between which is always a plus. Lots of hard work pays of with a fair amount of celebration and sharing the fun with non-Greeks. The one and only reason for staying at this community college like school. PYP! Those are the facts friends! Come meet us and learn for yourself!

Lots of places to go, pricing is normal, not much for student discounts that I have noticed. Hardly any chains.

The school has a lot of parking. The good lots close to where one is living are small though. But everything on this small campus is a 5 minute walk or less. They are super gay about parking and enforce the shit out of it and in the winter you cant use the free parking on the streets. Parking each year is 200$. Horse-crap.

Other then meeting great new friends associated with Greek life and non-Greek life -- this school is a joke. You don't need to go to class to pass. The teachers will almost always accept work late even though they say they will not. If you want an easy degree come here.

This school is mostly just a bunch of artsy and interesting characters. Other then the sports teams players not much revolves around physical activity.

This school has a lot of interesting characters. Not many days you can go without seeing something out of the usual.

Do drugs responsibly. Don't be a dumb-ass. Watch out for people who's social life, family life, schooling, or career are going downhill because of it. Then say something; if not, stop listening to societal constraints and let people do whatever they want to do. It is none of your damn business anyway unless the previously stated negatives are occurring.

It was said that it would be bad winters but I have not seen any. But it can be hit or miss with rain often.
College Senior 2013-11-24T00:10:10Z
The town is nice. But it is poor, small, and the townies are sketchy as shit. It is very scenic and has a lot you can do with regards to that and the town is artsy and has some cool stuff to see.

The school is supposed to be strict on booze; but like any school it is super easy to get away with it. And I have attended 3 different schools and been to dozens of others across the country to party and hang with buddies at. Don't get caught. This school sucks with parking related stuff.
College Senior 2013-11-24T00:03:01Z
It is possible to buy cheap computers from the school and they are 100% guaranteed essentially at all times if broken which is cool; but they are cheap and serve essentially only as music dump and school work.

It depends on what you find but for the most part it seems to be over priced and seemingly always old renovated buildings.
College Senior 2013-11-21T02:26:15Z
The food is awful and very expensive! Get off the meal plan as soon as possible!
College Senior 2013-11-21T02:25:28Z
The gym is crap (very tiny and run-down) and there aren't many student hangouts other than the basketball courts and townhouses.
College Senior 2013-11-21T02:25:28Z
The teachers are awesome and really care about their students. The material on the other hand is questionable.
College Senior 2013-11-21T02:23:57Z
The shuttle is free but inconvenient so people stopped riding, leading to cuts. There isn't any good transportation other than that so a car is pretty much a necessity.
College Senior 2013-11-21T00:29:56Z
There are rarely spots to park in and if you need to have your car at school, it costs you an arm and a leg.

Financial aid office is annoying and no one really gives you options. I really needed aid this year but there was a decrease in funds and I was taken off the work study list for lack of school funding! People that do not need work study somehow get the jobs that others should have.

There are always parties to go to on campus but they are pretty lame sometimes because we are all crammed in one small townhouse and there doesn't seem to be a lot of communication. Many people are visibly high, sometimes during the day, and you can smell pot walking past buildings and even in common areas. I don't think there is much peer pressure but there is some kind of pressure because...what else are you to do in North Adams?!
College Senior 2013-11-21T00:23:54Z
There aren't many places to go if you are 21+ because one, you don't want to drive drunk, and two, places are far away and really sketchy and dangerous.
College Senior 2013-11-21T00:21:16Z
I have heard that Greeks do a lot for the community and fund raise all the time. As someone who is not a part of Greek life, I would think (initially) that those who are involved are snobby and drink all of the time. The Greek housing is awful- I have been to some parties and the living conditions are disgusting.

Amarak is evil and poorly pays it's workers and helped fund the school's new science building in exchange for a ten year contract. The food is much better quality than that served at other universities (*cough cough UCONN) and the employees are much friendlier, but the meal plan options are really limited even when compared to other colleges.
College Freshman 2013-11-19T03:24:33Z
I guess there's a greek life, a much bigger one than you might expect. There's only one real fraternity sorority combo on campus but there's a lot of fake ones. They throw good parties and seem pretty solid if that's what you are looking for.
College Freshman 2013-11-19T03:21:34Z
MCLA has great professors, great students, and it's a great homey type of environment. Those simply looking to party would be better suited towards a larger university but those who really want an education and are looking to get involved in the community end up thriving and having a great time.

North Adams is a huge art hub and home to the largest contemporary art museum in the country. Unfortunately it's in a very isolated and remote area the the landscape is very scenic. There's not a whole lot to do, most shops in town close after five, but there's a movie theater, a coffeshop called the Parlor that's open to 11:30 on weekends and serves alcohol to those of age, and plenty of events on campus.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
