College Prowler Take
Students who live in a city must make some sacrifices. One of these sacrifices is cheap and accessible parking. McGill does not see it as their responsibility to provide parking, given that there is so much cheap public transportation available. Since the school is not helpful, it is advisable to take that hint and not bother bringing a car, at least for the first year. If, in the course of getting an apartment, an affordable space comes up, it might be worth looking into, but owning a car and parking is pretty excessive and indulgent for students living in this city. Permits are reasonably priced in comparison to other city schools, but again the availability of spots is low. Students with a car are often asked by friends to take them on errands, adding another reason why it is better not to have a car on campus, for needy friends are just that—needy. The only perk students can address is having access for easy roadtrips or going home, two of the most common reasons for students to use public transportation, for everything a student needs is within walking distance.

Parking anywhere in Montreal is...
Parking anywhere in Montreal is tough, but since McGill is right in downtown, there's really no need to have a car. Public transportation is easy to use and convenient. I know one guy who brought his car here, and all it does is sit and collect dust (and snow) in the parking lot.

There is a serious lack of parking at McGill University. While there are parking lots available, the cost is atrocious, and I would advise against parking on campus. It is possible to rent a parking spot on campus, although one might be better off renting a space in a nearby apartment.

I've never parked on campus and don't see many cars on campus. There must be places to park, and I assume they're slightly off-campus. Most students use transit to get to school or live close enough to walk.

There is close to no parking on campus. Especially because we are in the middle of downtown Montreal, hardly anyone drives to campus. Having a car is an extremely rare phenomenon for a McGill student. It's pretty unnecessary.

Most people don’t bring cars to Montréal because everything is within walking distance, and there’s good public transportation. |
