I lived off-campus at the Hawkins Point Townhomes at 9680 Hayden Drive. Right on route 4 and I-64. I was a few minutes from downtown and close to the nightlife in downtown St. Louis. Not a good place for house parties because of the on-site supervisor calling the cops easily. But, if you want a safe and brand new rental to study in peacefully so you can go out and party at night I would recommend it. I also lived in Lebanon for a short-while in a townhome on the hill. They had good parties there but the darn place kept falling apart.

I lived on-campus my first year. I decided to live off-campus in my other years at the Hawkins Point Townhomes on Route 4 and I-64. They were a short drive to campus and also a lot roomier. Not a place to party (large deposit for undergrads, more friendly towards grad students) and the on-site property manager doesn't hesitate to call the cops. But, if you are looking to study and not be distracted that place worked out well for me. If you need to live on-campus, it isn't too bad. A little out-dated depending on where you are, but not too bad.

Small community, so not a lot of public transportation
College Junior 2013-08-26T13:02:52Z
Its a "small town" type of atmosphere. Close enough to bigger cities (like St.Louis), but isolated enough to have an environment conducive to learning.

The school is definitely a stressor on the wallet. However, there are plenty of loans that can be applied for to make up for the amount. One of the worse parts is the offices will redirect you to the wrong office when looking for information which ends in a student or parent getting the run-around. Some of my personal paperwork has even been lost before.

For those offenders who are caught breaking the honor code of our school, the appropriate measures are taken. When students are ignorant about their actions and do it in public or advertise it is when problems arise.

The greeks aren't party animals. Instead, they are focused on bettering the University.
College Freshman 2013-07-18T01:53:45Z
McKendree is not a real big party school, due to it being a private religious college. It is not completely boring, but there are no clubs or bars to go to. There are a handful of parties, but they are not every night/weekend.

There is a lot of diversity on campus, but it doesn't seem to ever be a problem. Everyone gets along with everyone and there doesn't seem to be any problems at all. If there is, its few and far between. Everyone is very welcoming to the new freshmen, or any new face that appears on campus!

Everyone supports the varsity sports, and everyone has a lot of spirit for them. They are very successful in every sport, and always push to be better.

Somewhat slick when icy, other than that its fine!

Guys & Girls:
Everybody basically meets each other before school even starts like on Facebook so they interact well with one another.

I received a decent amount of financial aid, but financial aid does not take care of all of my tuition including the loans i took out. It was hard for me to complete my financial aid because this was my first time and was unsure what to do.

I don't really know what the local atmosphere is like because I am a distance learner.

I'm not sure about off-campus housing because I am a distance learner.

I am a remote student and have never visited campus. It might be nice to have some sports feature on the McKendree webpage or a day devoted to distance leaners.

The old dorms could really use some remodeling. They just built new ones last year, and I hear those are nice. The Suites and McKendree West are like apartments and are mostly reserved for upperclassmen, although freshman can get put in there if freshman housing is full. All of the residence halls are either right on campus or really close.

We have the Bogey Bus that will drive you around campus, and a stop for the metro bus that can get you off campus, but most people just drive. Parking is free here, and if you want to go somewhere but don't have a car, it's pretty easy to find someone who does.

Health & Safety:
Public Safety is always patrolling and checking building security. Any break ins that happen in the dorms are usually from people being negligent - leaving he doors unlocked or open for extended periods of time. Sometimes things happen on campus, but Public Safety gets right on it and alerts the campus to the danger. Incidents are so few and far between that when they do happen, everyone knows about it and everyone is shocked.

Guys & Girls:
Guys and girls are pretty much the same here - overall smart and cute. But you can't be superficial about looks around here, because the campus is so small and there's not a lot to choose from. There are a lot of athletes, both male and female. The only guys I've met who are jerks are the ones who are superficial about what girls look like - they want to find models in a sea of regular girls. The girls are more into hooking up. Some are only here for relationships.

Ames is our dining hall, and, depending on the day, the entrees are good. Besides that they have pizza and sandwiches and like a foreign station (Asian, Mexican, Italian) and those are decent. But the food in Ames gets boring fast. I'd say if you're not going with friends, 1828, our cafe, is better. They have more choices and the food is great. The only problem there is they only take real money (cash or credit) or flex dollars, and depending on your meal plan, you might not have a lot of flex dollars.

I have just started attending McKendree University. So far, I can tell that campus security is very tight and strict - as it should be. As far as school policies, I cannot determine. Only one of my teachers takes roll.

Health & Safety:
Over the past couple years more incidents of theft have been occuring, which has made me feel less safe than I felt Freshman Year. We have Public Safety on campus 24/7 on call to respond and are contstantly circling campus as well. They respond quickly to medical emergencies as well. McKendree is a dry campus as well so if you are caught, you are not going to just get away with it.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
