Seems pretty nice, they have a lot of money so that can afford to upkeep on everything--I mean when you have a medical school right here in the middle of campus it's pretty tough to let it go to trash.

There is absolutely every type of person on this campus--it is like the world in one spot. Just in my class alone I have over 7 different countries represented with 6 different languages. Amazing.

I have received more aid here than any other school as far as scholarships go, I can actually afford to come here and pay for it as I go.
Recent Alumnus 2013-09-13T16:14:48Z
there is public transport. It is available and nearby many places.

I do not see the night life at this location I have too much research that needs completing.

I would never use them. I have a laptop. So I have access on my own.

Guys & Girls:
There is truly a remarkable mix here--nationalities, religions, personalities, and shapes and sizes. You will find everyone from a completely covered Muslim woman population walking around, to the scantily-clad Vegas showgirls, and everyone in between. The guys are just as diverse too--everyone from the tough-guy football star, to your lowly book-nerd. Somehow we manage to walk all around each other and not get into battles. Of course, the motivation for that may be if that were to happen it would truly be a riot. So it is peaceful here and diverse.

They have some selection. You must pay by cash or student account though. They need to fix that. Quality is average--nothing incredible or terrible--just about where it needs to be to be pleasant.

Unbelievable variety--Greek, Asian, fast food, fine dining restaurants, quick stops, they have everything in one square mile from burgers, to Chinese, to sushi, to Wendy's, and more. All this just in my 1 mile walk to campus. Amazing.

Top notch scholars. Top notch research on the latest issues. They encourage you to "keep up with it yourself" but at the same time actually take the time to help you through the process.

Health & Safety:
No real police presence that's noticeable, don't know if that's on purpose or not. The biggest issue is simply walking around campus--it is so crowded that you will bump into someone, and cars are allowed to waltz straight through while we are walking. I wouldn't have the driving roads go straight through campus with the level of people they have walking through.

top notch scholars, excellent recommendations for reading, outstanding student experience

To be completely honest, Hamilton is not the best place to be. It's always described as a "sketchy" city and the general neighborhood atmosphere isn't that great. the quality of housing varies depending on price, obviously. On the cheaper side, there are old houses near the school with tiny rooms and creaking floors. If you can afford it, there are a few apartments or houses that provide good quality and spacious living space. Rooms aren't too hard to find as long as you look for them earlier on.

McMaster does not recognize greek life on campus. However, there are still about 4-5 fraternities and 4-5 sororities that operate. This includes Black, Asian and Jewish-focused fraternities/sororities. Again, because McMaster does not recognize GL it is hard for these organizations to promote on-campus because of strict university guidelines about who can put up posters, book rooms, etc. They are there, and are making an effort but the university makes it hard for any fraternity or sorority.

food is pretty good, but kind of expensive. lots of places to go on campus and nearby (e.g., westdale)

athletic centre is pretty good since its new, but while access to track is free, classes are extra, so are machines and weights

Public transit is good at peak times (like winter and fall), but not great during the summer. Cost is mandatory in tuition, so can use student card. Can also use student card to get discounts on GO. Bus schedule is okay - sometimes they all come in a clump though (one after another of buses on similar routes), so if you miss it, you have to wait 20 min for next one.

Health & Safety:
Whether it be Campus Police or EFRT having your back 24/7 there is a resource to call that will arrive within 2 minutes. I have never felt unsafe on campus at mac

Plenty of Options – Whether you want a simple bar and grill chain restaurant, or an little fancier place to go, from west dale, to locke street and Downtown Dundas, there are plenty of options in the area to enjoy a good off campus meal.
College Senior 2012-08-30T17:29:50Z
Don't Go DT – Downtown, especially on a saturday, is usually an older crowd. Hit up the on campus bar for Pub nights on thursday if you want a real greasy and sloppy time but it's usually more fun to hit up a friends house party in Hamilton.
College Junior 2012-08-16T02:12:53Z
Needs More Variety – I enjoyed the food on campus but it would be better if there was more selection and variety of food.
College Senior 2012-06-27T02:57:36Z
Student Drinking Prevalent – Drinking is more popular than drugs. If students are using drugs, it is generally marijuana
College Senior 2012-06-27T02:55:07Z
Many Options Avaliable – McMaster had several options including vegetarian, halal, eat-in, fast food, etc. Many options, and several dining areas around campus

With exception to one "frat" for Jewish men, McMaster does not have any greek life
College Junior 2011-08-19T17:23:13Z
McMaster is wonderful. Everyone is willing to lend a hand or point you in the right direction. Everything is vibrant and fun. I would definitely choose McMaster again because it has a lovely campus, it's close to home and they have a great athletic program.
