The instructors I have had were knowledgeable. I live in a remote area so there is not very many options for college.

I have been wanting to take chemistry, or biological classes, but can only attend nighttime classes. There have not been any available.

I already have a job and have worked full time throughout these years. It has been extremely difficult. I also have four children.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
I have been in contact with my guidance counselor for the years I have taken classes here. Each semester we would add up my credits. I had enough credits in 2011 to graduate. it was at the last minute and my counselor had to get approval from her supervisors to let me walk in graduation. She got it approved, I walked in the ceremony. Months later I had not received my degree in the mail, so I contact the school. They told me I was 4 credits away from getting my degree. My guidance counselor had moved and they said I would have to take more classes. So, now I am stuck trying to fit in classes when I work a full time job, and there are no night classes that will help with my degree. Plus I have to find the extra money now. Extremely disappointed.

I am 52 and work a full time job, it is difficult to be involved to a large extent.

Communication is fair. There are not enough courses available.

It is an average 2 year college. It does not have enough programs geared towards my degree, Administration of Justice.

The computers on campus are set with you're webadvisor acsess code to personalise setting and are normally in great functioning order. The wifi provided on campus is also fast and reliable.

I have only taken a couple online classes but they where easy to use and a lot of the classes will have a portion where you either go on a cite for homework or a professors page for papers needed and still go to the class for the lectures and such.

Having served as a Student Ambassador of Mendocino College, I am familiar with the staff and services offered at our Career Center. Our Career Center is great at providing mock interviews to help people strengthen weaknesses and feel comfortable about the interview process. One of the staff in the office was actually extremely helpful to me when I was awarded my first work-study grant as I didn't know how the process worked but she walked me through it step by step.

I started my college career at 18 when I first went to San Francisco State University. The one thing that stands out in my mind that makes Mendocino College different, is the interaction that I can have with people at the campus on a daily basis. Granted, a community college can be quite smaller than a university, but a lot of the instructors have been to universities themselves and still choose to work at a community college. That in itself says a lot to me. The atmosphere of Mendocino College is one of caring, guidance, encouragement and enthusiasm that I sincerely appreciate.

Resource Center Greatness – Mendocino College, in my opinion, has great resources. At the start of the fall 2012 semester, our new library at the main campus in Ukiah was up and running with brand new computers! These have been an awesome resource for me as most of my classwork is don by computer. Their WiFi could use slight improving as the signal could be stronger, however, their tech support team is awesome! I can utilize the computers in their resource room for anything & everything that has to do with school. The also have a printer/copier which is always available, during office hours of course. Had it not been for these resources, I may not have made it through last semester, but because I could utilize these resources, I made it through the semester with flying colors!

Mid-Life College Experience – Due to the fact I'm a mom of two teenagers, Mendocino College has actually offered me great convenience in my schedule. One drawback I have is the criminal justice program classes are at night which takes me away from my family, however, the online classes have made up for that! The instructors I've had thus far have showed me they really cared about my success and provided easy to understand curriculum. To transfer my credits from my previous institution, all I had to do was provide my current college with an original transcript from my previous college, which wasn't hard at all. Their work-study program is great as well as it allows me to earn money for my family's needs while keeping the balance of a college student!

I chose this school because of a couple reasons. One is I came to play on the women's basketball team, and another reason is because I knew I would get all the classes I needed to get out and transfer. Mendocino College is able to get you the classes you want to transfer. It was easy and simple.

I was hesitant about taking online courses, but came to find that they were super convenient. Sometimes it can be a little difficult to log in at first and understand the tasks you have to set up, but with help from instructor it makes it easier to get going.

The facilities on campus are very nice, a brand new library was just built and it is beautiful. It is also big enough to always find a spot to read or study. The school is in the process of getting a new students center. Also the gym and weight room have nice equipment and friendly staff.

My school is small, which makes it easy to get classes I want. It doesn't have big class sizes, so I can easily get one on one attention from my teacher. The teachers and staff are knowledgeable and help with any questions I have. There is also FREE parking on campus, which makes it super convenient and affordable, there is always a spot available.

We have a diverse student body at our school. We have African Americans, Mexicans, students with disabilities, transsexuals, gays, lesbians, you name it! What I find interesting about this is it feels comfortable as we can all accept each other for each other's differences. It really makes it fell like home. As a matter of fact, after I finish my degrees, I would really love to work at the school! It has really become that much a part of my life.

Here, I want to focus on the new library that was built last year at our main campus in Ukiah, which opened in august of 2012. This facility has awesome computer equipment, to include separate computers for listening. For example, my music class I took in the fall of 2012 had a companion CD to it. The listening computers allowed me to listen to the selections to complete my assignment and with the headphones, I was able to listen without interruptions. I think this is a GREAT feature and I would not have been able to pass the class without it!

The academic courses I have taken at Mendocino College have really challenged me. For example, as part of my psychology program, I had to take Research Methods. I thought I knew how to do research prior to taking the class, but boy was I wrong! This class taught me how to find valid, reliable sources and why they are valid & reliable. The course also taught me to use about three of four sources for one subject to make my argument stronger to avoid it being questioned. As far as special study options, my environmental science instructor did offer a lab setting to us for study time, if it was needed, so I say that the instructors do go the "extra mile" which I think is rare as I didn't get this kind of treatment years ago when I was at a university.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
I have been at Mendocino College now for 3 years and have not had any trouble with getting my aid. As long as you comply with their requirements and put forth your BEST efforts in your study time and take your education seriously, you will succeed. The process is simple...just fill out the FAFSA every year. From that one form, I have been awarded Pell Grant, FSEOG grant, CAL grant and work study, all of which have made it possible for me to focus on my education without worrying about how I would financially survive while in school. My one piece of advice is to ALWAYS get your forms into the financial aid office early, if possible. The education I've gotten so far has been extremely valuable as one of my English instructors told me my writing was good enough to be published, so I've published 5 books on the Amazon Kindle Program, which will help me pay for my university level education.

My college life can be extremely hectic at times, due to the fact I am pursuing dual degrees. Between my counselor and the awesome instructors I've had, I've been able to micro manage my time well and take and get through the courses I need at this level to go on to the university level. Some of the workload is challenging, but having work experience, I think it is equal to the amount of work I will have to do in the future after I get my degrees. Having served on the curriculum committee of my school, I think the curriculum is appropriate for the programs that are offered. Job opportunities are good as well, as I had three jobs on campus this past semester as I tutor English in the Learning Lab, I work in the library and I serve as a Student Ambassador in which I give tours to prospective future students.

The online courses at Mendocino College are excellent! Being a single mom of two teenagers, I need the flexibility that is offered by online courses. Plus, due to me going through some personal adverse issues with my family when I came back to school in 2010, being able to get assignments done and "be in my online class" at 1 am was a huge advantage! Plus, all my instructors were easily accessible through the portal email.
