Overall Experience at Merritt College

Overall, It Works

I work full time and am trying to complete my prerequsites for nursing school, so the scheduling of classes, especially the more popular ones, is always a little challenging. For the most part, the teachers seem to really care about the students and enjoy what they do. The administration is usually quite difficult to get a hold of/ or you feel like you get a different answer from every person you talk to. It is a nice campus and they are really working to improve it. I think one area to focus on would be counseling support. There are too few counselors and it becomes discouraging to try and meet with them since its at least a 3 hour wait- every time.

Certain Areas Excel, but Others in Need of Work..

Overall, they are beginning to upgrade certain areas of the campus, like the library. Unfortunately, in the interim, it leaves a less than desireable amount of space and organization. The student center has recently been redone, and looks great! It also serves as a nice study area, although it can be a bit noisy. One area that definitely needs improvement are the scince labs and the amount of resources they have. Science is definitely a hands on learning experience and a lot of the lab practicals are limited, due to lack of resources.

There Is a Good Amount of Diversity!

I can be in a class with people fresh out of high school as well as people more advanced in life and just starting their education.

There seems to be a good amount of ethnic, financial and general person to person diversity on campus, which I think is a good prep for the real world. It helps one to appreciate, embrace and learn how everybody is different and brings a special quality to the table.
