Perfect for the Person Who Doesnt Want to Commute

For a person who doesnt want to commute each day to a campus, the online courses are perfect. You still get the interaction with teachers if not better as you would on campus.

Campus Activites

Metro state has some amazing campus activities. I think that because the campus is so large it creates more of an opportunity for the school to work with the other neighboring schools to create a fun atmosphere.

Simple Beauty

During the summer the flowers and trees are stunning beauties. The new science building is modern. All bathrooms promote going green with their airdyers, and are conveniently located throughout the building. Every room on campus has their own recycling bins in addition to their trashes. The student health center is conveniently located and visible to the newer students. There are theatres with this great feeling of prestige with their secluded seating and stage. I went to rent there, and it was amazing.

Not Very Great Options

The options for eating on campus aren't very good. Most of it is fast food like McDonalds or Taco Bell. The other stuff, a couple of sit down restaurants, are rather expensive. I usually bring my own lunch to school.

Drink or Smoke

The drug scene at Metro is very low because there is a high police force on campus (not visually, but there are emergency centers on every block). Outside of campus, it is mostly just marijuana smoking.

Food

No real dining halls to speak of, but there is a variety of food available in the Tivoli. Subway, Taco Bell, McDonalds, etc. Plus a convenient store that is located on the 2nd floor of the Tivoli as well. There is a pizza parlor that serves alcohol (to those of age) and full service restaurant located in the Tivoli. Basically said, I've never seen fellow students go hungry. Food and drink are located everywhere you turn on this campus.

Fine Campus, but Way Too Dark at Night

Campus is well laid-out, easy to navigate, and generally well manicured. The mix of old and new architecture is visually intriguing. However, night time exterior lighting is generally poor; and the Tivoli Student Union (on the interior) frequently appears as though it needs a good cleaning.

Crazy Topic...

The drug scene at Metropolitan State College is not really big, although it depends on who you hang out with. If people are doing drugs, they’re usually just smoking. Drinking is a much more popular activity. However - Denver in general is pretty liberal in regards to marijuana. There are several medical marijuana joints!

Sports Are There... but Not a Huge Following...

Sports are on campus, but not a huge following on campus. I would imagine that since Denver has a huge variety of professional athletics with great student discounts, it is hard to really attract a huge on campus fan base. The Athletic Department seems to consistently produce successful collegiate athletic programs.

Computer Information Systems

This academic focus is accredited by ABET (Association Board for Engineering & Technology). The professors are very knowledgeable in their respective fields - most have successfully been successful business owners who have "retired" early to academia. This is a huge boon for students because the professors are able to provide real world application to the subject matter.

After you get all the paperwork completed it is smooth to move to the next year easily. Dispursed early enough to get books before classes start.

The process did not take terribly long but the people in the financial aid off need to be trained better. They generally have no idea what they are talking about and are just warm bodies to fill the slots.

The Facilities Are Fine

The mens locker room needs some improvement. Generally everything is fine but i would really like for them to improve the common areas of the classrooms. I do understand that this is hard considering 3 different schools use the area but I always feel with the number of students attending it should be generally better kept.

Safe Enough

It would be nice to see more police around campus. There is often time groups and events where I would expect to see police incase of an emergency, yet there are none to be found. I hope that they do fix this at some point.

Social Events and Student Organizations

Our campus has just about every type of student organization one could ask for on a campus and if there isn't one that you like the school encourages new student organizations and will help you with the process of becoming reconginzed by the school. There are social events going on daily from open mic to guest speakers, free chair massages during finals week and with the wealth of social events and student organizations there is never a shortage for recreational and social things to do if you are interested.

Professors Who Care

As a criminal justice major I have found that all of my professors have real world experience either past or current and they want you to succeed. They take the time to reply to e-mails, meet before or after class and answer your questions. As a non-traditional student who just returned back to college at age 38 I am very impressed at how much the professors go out of their way to help you learn the content, understand it, discuss it and want you to succeed.

Transportation

The Regional Transportation District (RTD) has a bus stop on campus near the Tivoli Student Union as well as a bus stop and lightrail station at the Auraria/Colfax station, the Administration Building as well as a stop right by Campus Village (student housing). With your student ID you can ride the bus or lightrail all over Denver Metro and the Front Range - even take a day trip to Boulder, Evergreen, etc. The value is amazing as the $46 fee charged when you register gives you an eco-pass sticker for the entire semester of riding at no additional cost. A normal monthly "Local" pass usually starts around $75 and goes up from there so students have an amazing opportunity when it comes to free public transportation. Not to mention RTD is VERY safe with camera's and audio monitoring on all buses and lightrail trains and regular security patrols by armed officers to check fairs and keep the trouble makers off the system.

A Commuter School for Adults

This school is a great school if you are an adult returning to school to get a degree or if you can't afford a large state school but still want a degree. For me i didn't like the experience. I didn't like the fact that it was a commuter school and i didn't like being in the center of downtown Denver. For some people though it is perfect. Since there are three schools on the campus the feeling is a lot different from a state or private university, where the campus belongs to only one school. Sure it has a lot of the same sports and activities as other colleges but there are no large sports teams so its hard to have school spirit.
