Constructive Criticism and Appreciation
In 2005, I felt that MSCD was clearly underrated. I'm not sure if it was because of the economy, or the school bureaucracy, but it seems that as the years went on, all of my professors became more and more apathetic to their jobs.
After graduating, I have been very disappointed in MSCD's academic curriculum. I was an individualized degree student so I had a wide range of exposure to various departments. It seems that most of the professors have little knowledge and experience in their fields. We learned very little because most of the departments do not challenge their students enough. You graduate knowing barely the basics.
I do however, want to commend the offices of: Student Life, Student Activities, Recreation, Athletics, Student Government and Student Media for providing an INCREDIBLE opportunity for professional development and application for the students. These departments are highly underrated, and uncredited (especially during the graduation ceremony). I also think that the Individualized degree program is wonderful, so I do appreciate that as well.
I have to say that I think the department that needs the most improvement in their courses, programs and teaching, is the Tech Comm. department. Ortiz and Amend are knowledgeable in their field but unfortunately, the department seems too lazy to teach. Step-by-step books do not work. Challenge us, we want to learn!
