Students at Miami seem split on whether or not Greek life dominates the social scene, but all agree that it is a large part of Miami life. It is not, however, a determining factor on whether or not you will enjoy your time at the school. There are other opportunities, such as academic clubs, political organizations, student government, mock trial, and intramural athletics, for students both inside and outside the Greek world to meet new people and to stay busy. However, students involved in sororities and fraternities love the experiences they have and the people that they meet. Additionally, there are several philanthropic events put on by various fraternities and sororities that are open to the public to promote goodwill among all students and the community.

Whether you choose to rush or not is a personal decision, but students should be aware that there are other activities and organizations that can be equally fulfilling. While Greek life at Miami can, at times, seem like the be all and end all, it is by no means the only way to expand your social horizons. Not everyone is involved with a sorority or fraternity, but you should be aware that you will not be able to walk anywhere on campus without seeing at least one tanned sorority girl with a bag, shirt, or shorts bearing Greek letters.

Greek life is pretty big at Miami.... Greek life is pretty big at Miami. I am not in a sorority, but a lot of my friends are. You may read Miami is only 30 percent Greek, but in all honesty, they count Miami’s branch campuses in Hamilton and Middletown in that number. The branch campuses do not have Greek life, so the Oxford campus is actually over 50 percent Greek. It just depends on what you like to do. There is something for everyone. Each frat and sorority has their own little stereotypes, but all-in-all they’re just fine. 12345 Greek Life Report

I’m in a sorority, but live in a house with 11 other girls who are not Greek, and we have a blast together. I love my sorority sisters, but definitely do not spend the majority of my time with them.
