Best Place to Take Your ParentsCollege Prowler Take
When students get sick of dining hall food—and that’s a certainty—there are several appealing dining options uptown. Miami students feel that the selection of restaurants is adequate for the needs of the average college student. Additionally, most of the restaurants and sandwich shops in the heart of Oxford are locally owned and within walking distance from the campus, thus adding to the small town atmosphere. Many major fast-food chains are confined to the outskirts of the city. There are a few locations, like Bruno’s and Bagel & Deli, that cater to drunken students by serving food into the wee hours of the morning. Students also have the option of enjoying a nice sit-down meal at one of the finer local establishments. Most students recommend Kona Bistro & Coffee Bar or High Street Grill for a nice evening out with the parents or maybe even with a date. If you are looking for larger chain restaurants, like Olive Garden, you will need to drive to the larger neighboring towns, like Hamilton or Colerain. While Oxford does boast a fairly good selection of dining options, ethnic restaurants are limited, and some of the more upscale restaurants are just too expensive for the average college student.

The off-campus dining is pretty good. There is basically any type of food you could think of wanting within a walking distance from campus. Personally, I love places like Mac and Joes (a small alley bar) or 45 (a main street bar). All the places have fair pricing and they range from fancier to extremely casual.

There are a lot of options for restaurants uptown, which always surprises people. Considering how small Oxford is, it's amazing that there are something like 30 places to eat. There are the typical sub places and some cheap local stops which are usually busy. They have very few nice restaurants, though. When it comes to parents visiting, I would suggest leaving town after the first time. There is Alexander house, which is expensive and varies in its quality. The new restaurant, Stella, is actually really good and reasonably priced. Most of the restaurants are within walking distance, or the bus rides right uptown on the really cold days.

Some of the restaurants aren’t that great, like Spaghetti’s, which is way too expensive for the quality of food. Pedro’s isn’t very good either. However, there are some bright spots like Subway, La Rosa’s, China One, and Jimmy John’s. |

Though a little pricey, La Rosa’s has the best pizza in town. La Bodega is an alternative deli serving foods, like cous cous and sesame noodle salad, as well as traditional soups and sandwiches. |

Most of the bars have grills, but the good places are Spaghetti’s and the High Street Grill. Of course, there are the chains—Wendy’s, Cassano’s, Taco Bell, McDonald’s, Arby’s, Pizza Hut, La Rosa’s, Papa John’s, SDS pizza, Johnny’s Deli, Jimmy John’s, and Bagel & Deli. Bruno’s Pizza is sold on the streets uptown until 3 a.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. |

Did You Know? When major coffee chain Starbucks moved into Oxford, there was an agreement between Starbucks and Oxford City Council that the company would change its neon storefront to blend in with Oxford’s small town, red brick atmosphere. The Oxford Starbucks storefront is a painted white wood.
