Yellow and purple permits allow drivers to park at Ditmer all day, Millet in the daytime and on campus from 4 p.m. to 7 a.m., while Saturday and Sunday parking is available all day. Blue permits allow for parking in non-restricted areas and at red permit areas from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Green permits allow for parking at designated green areas as well as areas described for blue permits.

College Prowler Take

The unanimous parking verdict at Miami is that it sucks, beyond a reasonable doubt. Students complain about expensive tickets and the lack of available parking on campus. However, you can park your car in the large holding lots, Ditmer and Millett, without too much trouble. If you are hoping to keep your car close to your dorm, you will need your lucky rabbit’s foot, a horseshoe, and just about every other good luck charm you can get your hands on. You can try to make friends with the little old woman who stalks campus with the ticket machine, but it’s unlikely that you will leave Miami without at least one $50 parking ticket taped on your windshield.

Parallel parking is a useful skill to possess, especially if you live in Central Quad. Most on-campus parking spots are located on the sides of the roads, so unless you have enough time to circle campus for hours until an end spot opens up, you will need to know how to maneuver your vehicle between all the luxury cars and SUVs—it would be a bad idea to dent one of these. It’s also a good idea to purchase your parking pass online before the beginning of the school year—unless your idea of a good time is standing in line for two hours or more at the Campus Avenue Building your second day of class.

Everything at Miami is close...

Everything at Miami is close enough to walk or take the metro. Parking isn’t too bad on the street by my house, but I think it’s because we’re a little further away from campus. Most of the streets are crammed with cars, and the police make no bones about giving out ticket, after ticket, after ticket! We have one big parking lot slightly off campus for younger students to park their cars, so they have a way to get home. However, they don’t use the car on a daily basis. Oxford also just built a brand new parking garage, but that’s mostly for the new hotel and uptown businesses to use.

Parking is one of the worst things about Miami. Parking tickets are ridiculously expensive compared to other schools. Even uptown there are very few places to park.

Parking is probably the worst part about Miami. There is nowhere to park, especially for freshmen.

There is a long-term lot called Ditmer, but it is a long, dark walk from campus, though the bus does go there. Otherwise, the parking situation is beyond horrible for a university of this size. It’s shameful. Students get tickets on a regular basis because they cannot find anywhere to park.

Parking is a pain on campus, but a car is almost a must. If you are a freshman, they have a parking lot you can keep your car in, but you have to get a permit. They ticket like mad on campus, so be very careful where you park. They are sticklers.

Good Luck Getting a Parking Spot Here
During the week, you can park most places on campus after 4 p.m. if your car is registered with the university (pay attention to the color-coded signs). And all cars should be registered. If you want to try and sneak around without a parking permit, most places on campus are free to whomever after 7 p.m. However, you need to move your car before 7 a.m. the next morning. On the weekends, you can park nearly anywhere on campus, but be aware that everyone else will want to do the same thing.
