Miami Stuents- Guys and Girls

To be honest Miami is kinda known as J-Crew U... And it holds up for the most part. If you like greek life you will fit right in. Every one here is thin and attractive for the most part and pretty smart. Most of the students come from money too, hints the J-Crew U part. But not everyone is like that there are a lot of different groups too but they are not the majority of people. You can fine some really cool people here too.

An Overview of the B.F.A. Program

When, I first came to Miami University It was quite appertain to me that this was a business school and there goals and values were orientated to the Farmers School of Business. What I was shocked by the most was the quality programs that were offered here that were just as strong and not as emphasized as the Farmers School of Business. Like that Arts and Sciences programs. I am a senior fine art student focusing in painting. Miami offered me a great education in the Arts. I consider Miami's art school to be a diamond in the ruff. The degree in which, Miami University staff and professors taught different curriculum with new approaches and pushing you to think about concept and ideas was amazing. Miami made me think about what I was saying and gave me the tools to say it. The parallel academia with new and old masters why still teaching you to be creative and innovative. The work load is a lot but you also put as much in as you get out. If you push you self and really change your standers you will be amazed at the doors that will open for you at Miami not only with your work and ideas but the financial rewards. The first two years are ruff and a lot of work but once you pay your dues, you get into advance studios. This is were Miami really shines for Fine art programs because they give you your own space to work in and helps you to develop your own ideas. Miami's undergrad program at the junior and senior level start to act more like a graduate level class to be honest. Miami also gives you all this and prepare you for the real world and all of its challenges. Teaching you tools of marketability and thinking on your feet.

Drinking Is the the Number 1 Hobby

Most students spend their free time drinking and/or partying. You can still be a student on Miami's campus that doesn't drink and still have a good time. But alcohol is a large part of the Miami student lifestyle.

Atmosphere at Miami University

It's fairly easy to fit in at Miami, if you can live with being exactly like everybody else. I have trouble finding friends outside of my LLC because I don't mix well with the majority of the students outside of the music and arts realm. The night life is accessible only through joining a fraternity or sorority. If you plan on staying in the dorms and not going out at night, you will be very well off, but if you are not in a fraternity or sorority you will be completely disregarded as a candidate for friendship. Although there are certain atrocities in the student body, the campus is absolutely beautiful and there is always a new place to eat.

CRAZY MIDWEST WEATHER.

I've always heard that if you don't like the weather in Ohio, stick around because it will be different in two days. For example.. yesterday we got an inch of snow and today it was 60 and sunny! CRAZY! I can't complain too much though, typical weather for the most part.

Amazing!

Miami's rec center is a top of the line facility. A new student center is in the middle of construction and is going to be absolutely incredible. The red brick buildings and huge trees make the campus look like something out of a movie. Even Robert Frost said there was no school as beautiful as Miami University.

Can't Complain

Let's face it, Oxford isn't comparable in size to other college towns like Columbus or Bloomington. However, for its size, the OxBox is home to a decent variety of restaurants. Jimmy Johns, SoHi, Wild Bistro, Skyline, Chipotle.. and more. Decent delivery options, too. If you're looking for a nicer dinner check out Stella, Paesanos, or 45.

Computers at Miami University

Miami University has mostly macs but if you are a PC person, no worries because they also have that. Printing on campus are available in many places, but most often in the libraries. We have different libraries for different fields, there is the main library and then there are smaller, less crowded libraries such as the music library and the science library. Network connection is fast in libraries but in dorm rooms, it can be kind of slow. You have to pay extra to have super fast connection in your dorm.

Miami Nightlife

Miami is known as a work hard, play harder type of school, and on every given night, there is always something going on. With over 10 bars uptown, and most of them being 18+, one can never get bored. Also, with a big Greek community, there are a lot of frat parties and day drinks anyone can go to.

Highly Rated Academics

Professors take pride in their experience and qualifications. The curriculum is well rounded and the workload typical of many colleges. Business is the most popular study area of students.

Off-Campus Housing Is Great

The off-campus housing at Miami is fantastic. There are many options and all of the students live there. It is nice because everyone names their houses and people don't know your house by its address, they know it by the name. The only problem is that only junior and senior students can live in the off-campus housing.

Really Rainy Here Is Oxford

The weather is normal Ohio weather. It does rain often so bring boots and umbrellas.

Not the Greatest

There are a lot of Chinese students but other than that the diversity is lacking. There are mainly white students.

Student Teaching

I haven't had to do this yet but many of my friends have already gone through the process and the school does a very good job of taking care of you. If there is a certain school you want to student teach in, you can make a case and most likely get placed in that school. Student teaching abroad is also an option and the teachers are very flexible. As long as you can set up a way to communicate with your supervisor while student teaching, they will make sure it happens as well. For example, skyping with a teacher makes it possible to student teach abroad.

Beauty

Jackpot. Beautiful people inside and out. I live on north campus and I'm surrounded by athletes. Always great options when it comes to the guys! And everything about this school is beautiful! From people to the campus in general.

Code 1

Okay, campus security is pretty good. They aren't crawling everywhere, but they are there when you need them... or when you park in the wrong place without a pass. Seriously, they are ticket ninjas. It also gets pretty intense on Green Beer Day - lots of underage drinking and public intox arrests. Only unexpected thing is how seriously Miami takes there trees - climbing one is a Code 1 - punishable by suspension and hefty fines. Resist the urge, Tarzan!

Miami Nightlife

The nightlife at Miami is something to see. We have clubs for dancing, and lots of bars for drinking. There are parties here every day of the week, although they get a little exclusive at times.

Just Pot and Alcohol

honestly people don't get caught unless they are stupid about it. I had a cop tell me that they won't bust us unless we are drawing attention to ourselves.. (my boyfriend was carryon a 3ft traffic cone down the middle of campus) even still though he got the warning cause we hadn't had "the talk" RAs and cops really aren't out to get you. the first couple weeks of school it seemed like it because the freshmen act like dogs let off the leash for the first time. Don't drink in your dorm, don't be loud, and if you're gonna smoke, go to a friends car or back in the woods on west or north quad.

White but Welcoming

Though Miami lacks diversity, it is not unwelcoming to people of a different race, religion, or sexual orientation. There are definitely students that fall under each category but the student body is predominantly middle-upper class white. Again though, I've yet to see anyone be excluded because they are different from the masses.

Thinking Outside the Box

Being a sociology major at miami is a lot of fun. Granted there is a lot of work in the analysis of the way people act in certain situations but it gives you the ability to think critically. I've come away from my sociology classes with a much broader view and open mind.

Not That Strict

There are police patrolling everywhere especially on the weekends at all times, but they are not strict at all. Students are drunkenly roaming the city, but police will only step in if it's necessary (belligerent, puking, fighting, etc.).

Very Good

There are a lot of clubs and bars uptown. The town was made for the college, so there are plenty of places to go on the weekends along with special on week nights. There are a lot of fraternities and tons of parties on weekends. There are buses on campus that are very convenient and take you everywhere around campus and places off campus.

Nightlife Is Fantastic

It doesn't get better than nightlife in Oxford--the big cities have nothing on us. Bars allow everyone 18+ in (can't buy drinks, obviously). Always an absurd amount of fraternity, sorority, and house parties. Never ever a dull night.

Styles

Many very attractive boys and girls. Dress is a more preppy. Social life is really good at miami!

Hot

Miami is known for the students being very good looking. This is a positive but does come with the pressure of fitting into the Miami University "mold". There is an abundance of eating problems at Miami.
