Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Most students are very satisfied with their decision to attend Michigan State University. New students sometimes complain that the size of MSU can be overwhelming and that it’s pretty easy to get lost while walking to classes; however, it only takes a few weeks before the campus starts to look familiar and feels more like home. Many students say they have made great friends and have been able to handle the challenging workload.

A university as large as MSU provides students with countless opportunities to excel academically, develop unforgettable social ties, and prepare themselves for a meaningful career and future. Unique research opportunities allow students to work closely with professors while gaining experience in their field of study. Many students take advantage of the wide range of study abroad experiences that are available every semester. With over 500 student groups and more than 200 programs of study, there is something for everyone at MSU. Program- and hobby-related groups are a fun way to meet new people. Make an effort to talk to people and keep up with schoolwork. Settling into a new lifestyle during first semester can be difficult for freshmen, but many are bleeding green by the time they return from winter break.

We can do pretty much anything we want. The "strictest" thing I've encountered is scanning my ID to get into my dorm past midnight.

Not once have I been afraid on campus. Police are readily available.

MSU Campus Housing

The dorms on MSU's campus are a great way to meet new people. Living in the dorms is convenient for most things, like some dorms house people of the same major, and a few dorms are situated around the athletic venues on campus. I feel that it's a lot cheaper to live in the dorms than in the apartments.
