College Prowler Take
Athletics are an extremely influential part of Michigan State University, but that’s to be expected from a Big Ten school with a national following and several national championship titles. Whether it is basketball, hockey, or football games, students across the campus gather their friends, don their favorite green and white apparel, and root for the MSU Spartans throughout the season. Sports are a major part of campus life for most MSU students, but most are more than spectators. Each semester, MSU’s IM facilities offer a variety of sports for everyone from beginners to hardcore athletes. In the fall, the IM facilities offer basketball, soccer, and volleyball, along with hockey, badminton, and individual golf and tennis tournaments. Other sports, including inner tube water polo, lacrosse, softball, and wallyball are available in the spring. With 50 additional club sports to choose from, many students find an activity or two they are interested in. Fitness classes are available at all three of the IMs. IM West is the largest building of the three. It houses 12 racquetball courts, four squash courts, a weight room, and seven basketball courts, as well as both indoor and outdoor pools. Also included in IM West are two tennis courts, four volleyball courts, six badminton courts, and an aerobics room. IM East has four basketball courts (also used for volleyball and badminton) eight paddleball courts, two squash courts, and an indoor track. IM-Sports Circle has an indoor pool and fitness room, two gyms, and two dance studios available to students. Demonstration Hall is also open to students, usually for indoor soccer and roller hockey. Near the Hall and Munn Ice Arena are two large fields that can be used for soccer, touch football games, or softball. There is currently talk of building a rock wall in one of the athletic facilities, as well.

Underrated
A-
Voted "Most Underrated student section" by ESPN. Our varsity sports are one of the top among large universities, and our intramural program has thousands of participants in many different sports. School spirit is high, you can never look at more then three people in a row and at least one of them not have MSU apparel on.

big sports scene
A
The sports scene is definitely huge at MSU, and school spirit is well and alive amongst students particularly when it comes to basketball and football. We have perhaps one of the most recognizable sports mascots in college history - Sparty! We made the 2009 championship game for basketball - Tom Izzo and the Izzone are constantly in the top lists for great sports coaches and dedicated fans respectively. Also, although our varsity football program isn't as renowned as basketball, it has made bowl games 3 years in a row. Spartan hockey is also pretty popular. As far as the popularity of playing sports, as a whole MSU's campus is fairly athletic. IM sports are very popular and we have excellent, extensive sports facilities. Athletics overall are a huge part of campus life here at MSU

I love the Big Ten feel at...
I love the Big Ten feel at Michigan State. The big sports (Basketball and Football) are so fun to follow. When you get into the sports, you feel like a big part of the school. It's a great social event to go to games or to just watch in a dorm with your friends. Intramural sports are also really great. It's not a big deal for many groups if you win or lose, but it's a really good way to get to know your floor, or to hang out with friends. Plus, the study break and exercise are great.

Varsity sports at MSU are huge, and widely followed by most of the students. One of the biggest reasons some students come to MSU other than academics is due to the sports programs available here. Intramural sports are also available and anyone can join.

School Spirit
MSU is bursting with school pride. Sparty, MSU’s mascot, took first place in the Universal Cheer Association/Universal Dance Association College Nationals in Orlando, FL, while competing against 18 mascots. There’s a good chance that if you scream “Go Green” from anywhere on campus, you will undoubtedly be answered back with the call “Go White.” The MSU fight song is an anthem that’s frequently blared from dorm rooms. MSU college students are serious about their school pride and wear the school colors frequently.
Getting Tickets
Buy your tickets well ahead of time for most events to ensure you get the price and seats you want. MSU sporting events are well-attended, and tickets are almost always in high demand. This leads to a lot of illegal scalping on the day of events. If you must buy tickets from a scalper, only offer up to 50 percent over the face value of the tickets. They may try to bring you up, but refuse and eventually you’ll get the ticket at a close to fair price.
Most Popular Sports
Men’s football and basketball teams draw the biggest national audiences.
Most Overlooked Teams
Many of the women’s sports teams, such as volleyball and basketball, don’t get the recognition they deserve.
Best Place to Take a Walk
The banks of the Red Cedar River, the W.J. Beal Botanical Gardens, and along the Horticulture Greenhouses are among the most appealing areas to take a walk on campus.
