College Prowler Take

All incoming freshmen at MSU are required to bring their own computers to school. But if for some reason your computer crashes, there are still plenty of computers labs throughout campus, and the MSU Main Library is open all night on weekdays. The MSU computer center has 24-hour help lines for any assistance you might need with your computer. Bringing your own computer to campus can have its advantages—you won’t have to leave the comfort of your dorm to work on papers and lab computers are usually old and slow. Most students own laptops, which are popular for their portability and convenience.

Many students enjoy having MSU’s Ethernet system, but because the entire university is connected to the same system, many computers are susceptible to frequent computer virus attacks during the first few weeks of school. Before you hook your computer up to MSU’s main network, get the newest anti-virus software and download the updated patches often to avoid getting a virus. The MSU wireless network covers most campus buildings, although dorm rooms are not usually included.

I never go to the computer labs, so I’m unfamiliar with them. I can do everything I need from my computer in my room, from doing homework to library research and talking with my friends. A computer is a must here. I couldn’t attend this university and pass all of my classes without one.
