Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Most students agree that MSU’s facilities are adequate enough to suit their needs. Facilities that are not open 24 hours a day open early in the morning and close late at night, accommodating both early birds and night owls. The University makes a constant effort to update computer labs, fitness rooms, and libraries, and it maintains the grounds nicely. Class buildings and dorms are constantly being modernized, and students say they are very satisfied with recent cafeteria renovations.

MSU recently unveiled a plan called “2020 Vision: A Community Concept for the Michigan State University Campus,” which incorporates planning principles and parameters for three basic components: parking, transportation, and open space; buildings, land use, and environmental issues; and the detailed planning necessary for each of a series of proposed campus districts. The goal of this plan is to create an updated campus environment that facilitates the mission of the University, preserves MSU’s heritage, and responds to the needs of students and faculty. Most students have agreed that “2020 Vision” is a step in the right direction to ensure that MSU is protecting its past while preparing for a promising future.

Pretty

Most buildings on campus are beautiful and old. If you walk along the Red Cedar any time of the year, you'll see all of the buildings. Everything is generally nice and I honestly don't see why they keep renovating everything, but it's not my decision I guess. The dorms are decent, but the prettiest are in West Circle (Landon, Yakeley, Gilchrist, Mayo, Williams, Campbell) and Red Ced (Snyder-Phillips, Mason-Abbot), which are pretty cool on the inside as well. Overall, campus is beautiful

The school has two work out gyms where you can play sports, lift weights, and run. They have another facility with a few pools. There are several libraries where you can find all types of books that you may need. You can also see if the books are available online. There are always campus activities going on. All types of clubs and things. In a school as large as MSU, there are always things to do.

Campus Facilities

Michigan States' facilities are pretty clean for the most part. The athletic centers are student based meaning you don't have to pay to use most of the equipment. Msu librarians are very helpful and are willing to help whoever; its a great place to study and utilize your resources. General campus has a cafeteria that is open until midnight (one residential hall in each neighborhood) and offers a lot of free activities such as movies, bowling, and concerts at the union.

Facts

Favorite Things To Do

In between classes, you can sweat off some stress on the tennis courts, attend a museum tour, watch a play or music concert, grab a bite to eat or some dessert at The Dairy Store, or settle down to a free movie at Wells Hall—all without ever leaving campus.

The school shows a lot of movies, and these are very popular with students looking to relax for a few hours. During the warmer months, the tennis courts are always packed with students and the WJ Beal Botanical Gardens draw crowds of nature lovers. The International Center, MSU Union, and auditorium are hosts to concerts, guest speakers, hypnotists, and fashion shows throughout the year.

Did You Know? The number of students in the library around 1 a.m. during finals week can reach up to 1,200 people—a far cry from the 100 to 200 students present on a normal weekday night throughout the semester.
