Advice on Finding a Job/Internship From the moment you walk on campus, get in touch and stay in contact with the Career Development Center. Also, make sure to attend the various conferences and expositions sponsored by the Career Development Center; these are crucial conferences. Get an early start on looking for internships and make use of advisors’ help. To make the most of a career advising session, it’s good to take a few moments to jot down some things you’d like to focus on with your advisor. No strenuous preparation is necessary for your fist meeting, but chances are by the end of your first session you’ll have some things to do. Make it a habit to see your advisor regularly. Many students make the mistake of neglecting all of the free advice at their disposal, which could lead to a stressful senior year. Getting experience through internships is a crucial key to your success in the job market. Many degrees offered at MSU are extremely competitive, and you’ll find that landing internships will help give you a little bit of an edge when you begin your search for jobs in the real world. The first internship is always the most difficult to attain, but checking in with advisors is extremely beneficial because they have the resources and connections to assist you. Depending on what degree he or she chooses to pursue, the average MSU student is advised to have at least two internships before graduation.
