Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

With 22 residence halls, one would expect the MTSU campus to be crawling all the time. But the truth is, most students only stay in the dorms during the week and go home on the weekends. This is convenient for the students who do stay on campus, as it gives them some alone time away from their roommates. MTSU is also different because, unlike at most other schools, the University does not require freshmen to live on campus. Living in the dorms can restrict a student’s quality of living, but it offers greater access to services and people. The experience of living at MTSU is a unique one, and most resident students say they appreciate their stay and cherish the memories created by living on campus.

Chances are first-year students who live on campus will be sharing a small, concrete room with two to three other people. Freshmen who live in the dorms are required to purchase a meal plan. This averages more than $1,000 a semester but ensures the student has food. However, there are no 24-hour dining options, so a resident student’s food costs may be higher than that. Living in a dorm can cost anywhere from $375 to $750 per month. This includes Internet and cable, which is nice, but keep in mind that alcohol is prohibited on campus, which can be a huge con.

Good Easy Access to Everything

The dorms are ok, but the option to leave in off campus apartments for your freshman year is always because you arent forced with living conditions.

Life on Campus

Campus has a lot to offer to students. Library hours are great for late night or early morning cram sessions. The KUC also offers great study spots and is also a great place to catch up with friends and catch a quick meal! Staff is friendly and helpful. Having a starbucks on campus is a caffeine life saver for sure. There is also so much school spirit. It makes you excited for game day.
