Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Finding a computer during peak hours and crunch times is becoming as difficult as locating a decent parking spot, and students regularly circle all four floors of the library in search of an open machine. The BAS lab is open 24 hours and has many stations available—around 3 a.m. The library has had problems with its printers, and machines have been known to fail for days at a time, which puts more pressure on the smaller labs and a lot more pressure on the students. In addition, the library’s computers are notorious virusspreaders, and many students have done hours of work only to find that their disk has been corrupted by a campus computer. In fact, some professors even prefer hard copies of assignments for this reason. The library’s information technology department is trying to stabilize the system and work out the kinks, but technical problems happen whether you like it or not.

Since a majority of campus and all of the dorms are Internet-ready, the most convenient solution is to bring your own computer. Plus, students can take advantage of the University’s wireless connection. Even though that is not perfect, you often see students outside working diligently on their assignments, which seems like a much nicer approach than battling the computer labs.

Computers Are Everywhere

There are many places you can go on campus to get to a computer. Even though there are so man conputers, they are always crowded and long lines form at the printers. Especially around finals and mid-terms. It's a great idea to just go out and by your own laptop that way you wont have to wait for someone to be done with the computer.
