Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Drugs are not an obvious aspect of college life here. Everything is available, but it is not in your face. Nothing is flaunted, and no one seems to be pressured—drugs aren’t just going to present themselves to you. The most widely used drug at MTSU is marijuana. There are a couple of shops in town that sell glass pipes and other paraphernalia for “tobacco use only.”

Alcohol is much more of a problem at MTSU. Students can purchase beer by the gallon at Davis Market or show up to any number of keg parties and drink themselves stupid—and do they ever. Alcohol is not hard to get, but MTSU is a dry campus, and security will enforce that rule when they find alcohol. According to the latest statistics, there were more than 120 reports of alcohol-related offenses on campus with the same number being arrested. So according to the data, if you get caught, you will be arrested. But in general, while remnants of drinking can be found all over campus through evidence such as empty beer bottles, you will not see students consuming it in public. Be safe, and you will have a good time.

Drinking Is Popular

Drinking is popular and the campus police is kind of a joke.

Not Very Prevalent

You hardly see any drug use at MTSU. It seems to be more drinking than anything. At the bars closest to MTSU the 21+ age restrictions are inforced and underaged drinking/fake IDs are not tolerated. I believe this cuts down on drinking and drug use in the Middle Tennessee area.

Alcohol and Drug Use

The campus is supposed to be a dry campus, but there are plenty of students who either drink on campus or come onto campus drunk. However, those who do drink don't disturb much of anyone. As for drugs, they are very rare to hear or see of on campus. The few instances that they are present, it's marijuana.
