Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • As a student, the only one responsible for you is you. At MTSU, you’re responsible for checking your Pipeline account and verifying that admissions or any other department has all the needed documentation. The University is just too big to notify each student of every discrepancy, especially at the beginning of the year. Sometimes students are sent e-mails from the school, and while MTSU tries to keep everyone informed when important messages go out, don’t assume you’ll get a heads up about everything. Double check—it will save you much time and grief.
  • Visit your counselor. There are deadlines for upper-division status enrollment, intent to graduate, and other important things, so check with someone who knows the prerequisites and pathways of the degree you are seeking. It can save a lot of time and potentially an unwanted extra semester.
Tips to Succeed Double check all required information. WebMT is a Web site that posts your documents, loan information, and other information the school needs. But getting verification in person can save you lots of time and frustration when the Web site isn’t updated or your forms simply get lost.

MTSU Honors Program

MTSU has an outstanding honors program for high-ability and motivated students of any major. The program offers honors sections in many classes, which are capped at 15-20 students and provide an in-depth learning experience. At the end of the honors program, students complete a senior thesis, an original research or creative project that highlights their abilities (and looks great on grad school apps). The Honors College is housed in its own state-of-the-art building with classrooms, a lounge, and a computer lab.

I love that in my home state we have a university that provides a degree in aerospace. This makes our university unique among any other university around here.

Many people do no know about these programs because they do not know where to start or how to apply for them. These programs are not only benefical for you at the moment, but they are also great sources for when you graduate and and enter your field of study.

Facts

Urban Legends Davis Market, across from campus on the corner of Main Street and Middle Tennessee Boulevard, is believed by some to be the center of the universe. Due to the alleged magnetic pull from the center of the universe, it is said that once you enter the store, you’ll never be able to move from Murfreesboro. And if you do manage to leave, you’ll eventually end up returning for good. It is said that the only way to reverse this is by urinating on the stones that mark the geographical center of Tennessee, which is about a half mile from campus on Lascassas Pike. But be warned: The cops will bust you if you’re spotted trying to break the curse.
