Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The local atmosphere is quaint with a mix of country and progressive youth. Murfreesboro is trying to maintain its historical architecture and environment while managing to be the fastest-growing city in the state. There are parks everywhere, and many students head to them to take advantage of the mild weather. Since MTSU is considered a suitcase campus, it’s not as lively as most other universities on the weekends, but the weekdays don’t slow many students down. If you’re looking for a bigger-city atmosphere, Nashville is only a 30-mile ride down the interstate, but if  you’re going to the bars, make sure you have a designated driver because Nashville likes checkpoints. With all the food, drink, and nightlife you could want, Nashville is the hub for many other schools such as Vanderbilt, Belmont, and Watkins Institute College of Art and Design.

Music is the staple of entertainment around here, and Murfreesboro and Nashville have a significant number of venues for local and regional artists. The campus is sprinkled with students playing guitar or groups of artists battling rhymes. It’s a great opportunity to see and hear all types of music—great and horrible. If you’re not into live music, there’s always a mechanical bull or a dance club within a short jaunt.

Great Places to Socialize...

The campus offers a wide variety of public and private places, whether you're looking for a quiet place to study or a high-traffic area for organizations or shops to set up. There are two good cafeterias and many food shops in all corners of campus. Murfreesboro also caters to the good college atmosphere by offering tons of food service and shopping centers.

MTSU Has Variety

MTSU is in Murfreesboro TN and the atmosphere is amazing. There is so much to do on and off campus you could never be bored living here. There's many shopping malls, tons of food, and recreation is unbelieveable. There's lots of camping and swimming holes here as well.

Murfreesboro

There isn't much to say about Murfreesboro. It is an incredibly average town. There is a pretty good amount of shopping--a mall and a large "lifestyle center" mallish thing. There is also a rather quaint downtown area, but there aren't very many interesting businesses--mainly just law offices. Most of the city consists of old neighborhoods filled with ranch houses. Most of the locals are very nice towards college students--they understand that MTSU drives the economy in Murfreesboro.
