Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The local atmosphere is quaint with a mix of country and progressive youth. Murfreesboro is trying to maintain its historical architecture and environment while managing to be the fastest-growing city in the state. There are parks everywhere, and many students head to them to take advantage of the mild weather. Since MTSU is considered a suitcase campus, it’s not as lively as most other universities on the weekends, but the weekdays don’t slow many students down. If you’re looking for a bigger-city atmosphere, Nashville is only a 30-mile ride down the interstate, but if  you’re going to the bars, make sure you have a designated driver because Nashville likes checkpoints. With all the food, drink, and nightlife you could want, Nashville is the hub for many other schools such as Vanderbilt, Belmont, and Watkins Institute College of Art and Design.

Music is the staple of entertainment around here, and Murfreesboro and Nashville have a significant number of venues for local and regional artists. The campus is sprinkled with students playing guitar or groups of artists battling rhymes. It’s a great opportunity to see and hear all types of music—great and horrible. If you’re not into live music, there’s always a mechanical bull or a dance club within a short jaunt.

Square's the Best Part of It

The school is near the square in Murfreesboro, which is very cute and fun to take walks in and window shop. Sometimes there are events on the square, and you can go and hang out when you're not in the cute stores. People seem pretty indifferent if you're a student or not because it doesn't change much about who you are. But the restaurants are really awesome!

Where I Attend School

Murfreesboro, TN is a rapidly growing city in Tennessee with plenty of activities to participate in. Shopping at the Stones River Mall and the Avenue are highlights of Murfreesboro. As for safety, there seems to be more violence around the Middle Tennessee State University campus than there should be. Overall, the school is a great school to attend.

Lots of Places to Eat

Murfreesboro is a big city and always has lots of traffic since there are so many students at our college. There are tons of places you could eat around the area though. They offer discounts to MTSU students too.
