Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Many students have genuine complaints about the parking at MTSU, and many are simply lazy. However, the parking situation does seem to cause more headaches than it should. Increased construction has made it harder to get around, and many students hunt for spots in certain lots, circling around the same two rows waiting for a car to leave. If students would get to class on time and just accept the fact that they will have to walk a bit, the morning commute would go much more smoothly. The campus shuttle, Raider Xpress, is convenient on hot or rainy days, but it can take longer than walking.

The University has done a good job of maintaining a natural environment, and there are groves of beautiful trees and flowers that add greatly to the experience of the campus. However, it is also one of the reasons for the cramped parking. There is talk that the University expects to eventually have “the most effective university parking and transportation system in the country.” Surely it will be better, but unless they plan to build some sort of monorail—which they are not—the expectation of “the most effective” may be a bit much. In the meantime, expect the cost of parking tickets to increase every year, as well as the frustration with ongoing construction. But the improvements should be worth it to future students.

Construction Is Constant and Prevents Students from Parking

Parking wouldn't be bad if there wasn't so much construction at Middle Tennessee State University. Building two parking garages will be beneficial, but at the same time is ridiculious. Plus, the university has changed some student parkings to faculty parking only, which is worse for the students. Students typically have to park off-campus to get to class on time, so students need to arrive at least 30 minutes before their classes start.

Parking Garage

While I understand that 26000+ students need a place to park, deciding to close 1/3 of the parking lots during the spring semester was a nightmare. I had to be on campus three hours early just to attempt to find a decent parking spot.

Parking at Mtsu

Parking at MTSU before 5:30pm is horrible. There are so many students which causes spaces to get filled up quickly.
