Most Popular Sports
It only makes sense that Vermont's top teams would be involved in the cold sports like nordic and alpine skiing and ice hockey. Watching men's and women's lacrosse is also popular once the weather starts to get warmer.
Most Overlooked Teams
Swimming and diving, tennis, rugby, skiing, basketball, squash, golf, women's ice hockey
School Spirit
Middlebury College is just small enough to foster a substantial amount of school spirit. It is particularly prominent during ice hockey games and around Winter Carnival time. School spirit is also prominent during Homecoming weekend. Yet, it's sustained the whole year through with kids donning Middlebury logos and apparel. Sometimes Middlebury kids can come off as a bit too pretentious about their school.
Getting Tickets
The only tickets that seem to be in relatively high demand are tickets to men's ice hockey games. You may need to purchase tickets ahead of time if you're looking at the NESCAC (New England Small College Athletic Conference) championships. Normally, students never have a problem getting into regular season games, even at the last minute. Tickets are free for students and cost $2 during the NESCAC finals.
Best Place to Take a Walk
Down to Otter Creek and through the Marble Works (downtown), around the golf course, on the paths leading from Proctor down to the Ridgeline development (best on a snowy evening), around the Bread Loaf campus and on its cross-country trails
