College Prowler Take
In brief, the word on the street is “optional.” You can be here four years without witnessing one drug deal or one person doing drugs at a party, though you may smell it here and there. The essence of the social house experience is cheap beer. Hard drugs can be found, but they are not prevalent by any stretch of the imagination. Basically, if you want marijuana, it’s easily obtainable, and if you want hard drugs, those can be found as well, though they are not nearly as prominent. Cocaine and speed or other late-night studying stimulants seem to be the most common. You would be even more hard-pressed to find a rave in the area. Your exposure to drugs simply depends on who you hang out with and what you expose yourself to. Even if you have inadvertently or knowingly fallen in with the drug crowd, most Middlebury students strive to be such individualists that they will respect your desire to abstain if you’re not into experimenting. At a school so focused on academics and achievement, rest assured there are many Middlebury students who don’t spend their time or money on drugs.

There really isn't a big drug scene at all besides alcohol and marijuana, so no hard drugs. But there is quite a bit of marijuana around.

Like anywhere, the drugs are here if you’re looking for them, but they’re not in your face if you’re not. Pot smoking is fairly common, and a few kids use other drugs, but for almost everyone, alcohol is the drug of choice. |
