Birth Control Available?
Condoms and dental dams are free, readily available, and come in all flavors, colors, and sizes at Parton Health Center and in some bathroom dormitories. Female students who have had a women's health exam may also obtain a prescription for birth control pills that can be filled at the nearby pharmacy. The first pack of pills is free if you start them at the College and receive your exam at Parton Health Center. The birth control shot and patch are also available options, as well as emergency contraception upon an examination and a pregnancy test.

Basically, it's "in" to be an extrovert, and the more outgoing and involved you are, the more respect you will earn. The most common "type" at Middlebury is the "da Vinci"-someone who's competitive at everything, including drinking and sleeping. The one thing that's larger than the amount of alcohol consumed, however, is the students' academic conscience. It's not that it's hard to find someone at Middlebury, it's just difficult to convince him or her that you're worth one hour per night over his or her chemistry book. Everyone always has more work or has done more important things than the next guy. For the most part, Middlebury's social scene is dominated by sports teams or social/special-interest houses that usually have the best resources and spaces available to throw parties.
Hookups or Relationships?
If you consider a serious relationship one grinding session to a song at a McCullough dance party, passing out in a sweat-drenched heap back in some stranger's dorm room, and a "please don't call me tomorrow," then Middlebury's your place to find true love. There's a lot of hooking up; therefore, by default, there are lots of singles. Some are involved in long-distance relationships, yet students who date among the Middlebury crowd are rare. Those who do date usually fall into the "Middlebury marriage" stereotype; and there's not much in between-you're either casually hooking up with someone or in a very serious relationship.
Most people will tell you that it's hard to distinguish Middlebury students from a J.Crew ad, and while that might be true, there are still crunchy kids and casual dressers. Some dress this way for the cause of originality alone, while others simply like the feel of sweatpants and hairy legs beneath hand-woven, hemp skirts. As for the outdoorsy dressing crowd, you have to ask yourself if it's better to be the guy who wears chamois shirts, smells like fish, and was raised on the Appalachian Trail, or the guy who covers himself in North Face insignia and grew up in Manhattan. The latter probably outnumbers the former.
