Quick StatsBest Ways to Get Around Town
- Bicycle—borrow someone’s bike or bring your own.
- By car—many people have cars on campus, though it is convenient to have your own. If you do not bring a car, make friends with someone who has one.
- Walking—it’s brisk during the winter, but downtown Middlebury is hardly a half-mile from campus.
How to Get to the Airport
- A cab ride to the airport costs $25–$70, depending on the number of people in your van.
- Taking a taxi van is the most common way to get to the airport, but sometimes you can find someone who will drive you there.
- The Middlebury Transit (802) 388-3838 or (800) 388-1002
College Prowler Take
Although the lack of public transit may seem daunting at first, most students don’t find it a real hindrance. A large number of students have cars, and everyone has at least a few friends with cars. Most students are friendly enough to lend out their vehicles or at least take the time to drive you where you need to go. The taxi companies or the airport shuttle are your next best options—they’re still pretty convenient, though a bit pricier. Overall, Middlebury just isn’t a transport-savvy city, but it doesn’t really have to be. Students are used to walking and helping each other out to compensate for the dearth of public transit.

Public transportation is pretty much nonexistent. We have Midd Rides, but it's a van that only runs from 7:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. We also have transit vehicles that transport students to the Snowbowl/Breadloaf Nordic ski area. You can walk to any place that you want to go in Middlebury.

There is virtually no public transportation, but there is also virtually no town, so this does not matter much. The school provides Midd Rides at night, which are nice when it is too cold to walk down to the few bars in town. During the day, most of the town is within walking distance of the school. Otherwise, a lot of people on campus have cars and getting to town is hardly ever a problem.

Midd Transit can pick you up in several places on campus and bring you to the Snow Bowl, Burlington, Rutland, or just into town. Midd Rides also can bring you around campus at night and on weekends.

Around campus and within town, a person can easily walk. To get to the outskirts of Middlebury and to its large supermarket, or to get to a place like Burlington, a car is necessary. You don’t necessarily need your own, since students carpool quite often. |
