Health & Safety:
Parts of town near Millikin are shifty. Within the last three months, there was a shooting a couple of blocks away and an armed robbery near campus involving a student. The campus itself is extremely safe, and security is always present. To avoid walking alone at night, the university provides safe rides, where a university van will drive you to your destination. As far as health goes, the Health Services Building is in an inconvenient location relative to the dorms. It is a long walk between most residence halls and Health Services, and certainly not one you'd want to make when you're sick in the middle of winter.

Off-campus dining includes McDonald's, Hardee's, Pizza Hut, Domino's, Subway, and a couple of good, moderately priced local eateries including a pizza place and grill. The Domino's and Subway accept university "flex" dollars, included in most meal plans.

Millikin provides great need-based and merit-based financial aid. Millikin is a FAFSA-Only school, meaning applicants only need to complete their FAFSA for need-based aid and not any other paperwork specific to the school.

Alcohol is noticeably present at Millikin. Most students, including underage, partake in it at least occasionally. The students are very nice, though, and do not pressure those who are uncomfortable with it. Millikin usually tolerates it as long as it does not become a disruption to the community. Illegal drugs, on the other hand, are far less tolerable from a discipline standpoint, although they are occasionally present at parties. A hefty fine accompanies alcohol- and drug- related offences.

On-campus, there is little need for a car besides trips to the local Wal-Mart or Kroger. Everything else is within walking distance and parking can be a hassle. For long-distance transportation, ride sharing is your best option. For breaks, there are many people willing to go to Chicago or St. Louis for a low price. Flying out of the Decatur airport is another option: they provide flights for around $50 to a small number of airports, including Chicago-O'Hare and St. Louis. Greyhound bus is another viable option. Unfortunately, Amtrak does not stop in Decatur, but there are stations in Springfield, Bloomington, and Champaign.

I would not trade my experience at Millikin for the world. It is a quality education and you meet a lot of very nice people along the way.

Students here call it the "Milli-Bubble." Almost everything worth doing is either on campus or just off-campus.

It's Central Illinois. It gets cold in the winter and hot in the summer. There's not much more to say.

Millikin has an on-campus residency policy for underclassmen for a reason. Living off campus is only available as an option if you're a senior or you meet certain eligibility requirements (e.g. financial need) to live off-campus. Even so, housing immediately off-campus is shifty at best. The best option for off-campus apartments (which Millikin actually counts as on-campus for sophomores and juniors) is The Woods apartment complex. The Woods is grossly overpriced (Over $700 per month per person, does not include utilities), but features a couple of extra features like a pool, parking, and exercise center.

Millikin is fairly lenient, and officials generally tell students that they are adults and they are free to make their own decisions as long as they are willing to accept consequences for any issues.

As fun as you make it.

Talk to the financial aid office because they are always willing to help.

Drinking and drugs are very noticeable.

Very helpful professors and a variety of resources to help students succeed.

I love my major at Millikin. Since the theatre department is so prevalent in the school, I feel like I am a part of something bigger, and it allows me to really educate myself in performance. The curriculum is extremely lenient to fit in classes you want to take, and it allows you to take classes outside the major.

Being an honors student, I have the opportunity to skip my generic classes and take classes that I actually want to take. It leaved me with a lot of opportunities to explore outside of my department.

A lot of the off campus dining options are either too expensive or repetitive sometimes. A lot of the better options require transportation.

The weather is constantly changing in Decatur. One day the weather is in the 80s and sunny, and a few days later it is in the 50s and snowing. It makes living in dorms inconvenient for air conditioning and heat.

Health & Safety:
The safety on campus is extremely prevalent, but the health and wellness center is inconvenient and expensive for the lack of advice and help they offer. Most students leave campus to visit health centers.

Greek life is known for more than partying on campus. Actually, most of the greek life is not known for partying, but more for how we present ourselves on campus and how we benefit society. I am a member of Alpha Chi Omega, a sorority for women, and I love it. It was one of the best decisions I've made in college.

For a private school, I have received a lot of financial aid from Millikin. Although I still pay over $30,000 a year to attend here, they were able to offer me over $16,000 in scholarships due to talent and grades.
College Sophomore 2013-10-28T21:58:52Z
There are several ways diversity is seen on campus. From multicultural greek organizations, ethnic student organizations, and so on, diversity is easy to see on campus and easy to participate in.
College Sophomore 2013-10-28T21:57:22Z
Millikin's campus has several different aspects of greek life, student organizations, religious affiliated groups, etc. to make a student fit in. The more groups you participate in, the more fun the college experience will be, especially at a small school like Millikin.

The department of public safety at school is really lenient to a lot of situations. Living in Decatur, they mostly make sure the students are always safe. A lot of the strict aspects of dorm life are the RAs' responsibilities, since they are the ones who write students up for violations and rule breaking.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
