Local Atmosphere

The neighborhood directly outside campus is not very nice and doesn't seem very safe. If you go more into the Oakland hills it gets a lot nicer. I would recommend going to the Piedmont area or going to Berkeley for shopping, activities or dining.

Local Parks

What I love most about the Bay Area, where Mills is located, is the proximity to National and Regional Parks. Mills, and my home, are both so close to a multitude of different hikes that it would make leaving the Bay Area hard to consider. You can choose from a short easy hike, to a longer more substantial hike, and they're both a half hour from your doorstep!

Oakland

Oakland is a very scary place but there is a lot in and near the area. Mills is located near UC Berkeley which has a lot of nifty places to shop near. Its also a bus ride away from San Francisco which is loaded with exciting things to do! In Oakland there is a lake to run around and kayak through and a cute little place called fairy land that you need a child to gain access but I'm sure it's tons of fun.
