Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The single issue that has no one up in arms is the computer situation. Whether you have a personal computer or not, you will be well-equipped to deal with campus life. New technologies are being integrated constantly. The digital printers that they have are better than the ones students possess. And all of this is for use by every member of the student body and faculty. Taking advantage of this, professors post schedules and homework on the Web and consider e-mail a valid form of communication. That means checking your e-mail is a must, because papers may be moved down or altered at a day’s notice. Also, organizations, like Habitat for Humanity, or varsity sports will keep students updated through e-mails. A great majority of students will keep their Outlook program running constantly, for socializing as well as assigments.

ResNet does, however, seem overworked. Often, students complain that they cannot handle the problems or that they are not interested in solving them. Campus spam is one problem, since some administrators will forward five to ten messages a day. As a result, students’ mailboxes tend to frequently overflow. One student, feeling that it had gone too far, used it has a major part of his platform in his bid for Student Body Association president.

It’s nice to be able to take a...

It’s nice to be able to take a walk over to the library to get a little work done late at night. Even though nothing is more convenient than doing it in your dorm room or in the common areas, I like having quality computers with good programs at my disposal when my computer is having problems.

I went four semesters without a...

I went four semesters without a computer of any sort, but it was still a hassle. I had to fit in time between classes. If I had something to print out, I had to walk across campus at, like, 1 a.m. Usually, I used my roommate’s laptop. Let’s just say I wore out my welcome on that one.

Every dorm room is fitted with a high-speed T3 connection, and every member of the community has a campus e-mail box. On campus computers, every user has an H-drive on which students can save papers, applications, and other information.

The library has filmmaking technology, including Final Cut program and digital cameras, that students can use.

Every dorm also has an assigned a ResCon, a students trained to fix computer problems and connections, who is employed by ResNet.
