College Prowler Take
Jackson has a fairly temperate climate. It won’t force you to run for cover indoors, nor to run for shade outdoors. At certain points in the spring, the campus looks fantastic. Outdoor events usually go off well with few rain cancellations. It doesn’t snow, although you can expect some hail and sleet at odd times of the year. And rain is always, no matter the month, a seasonal expectation. For the most part, the beauty of the campus is overshadowed by murky autumn weather. It becomes commonplace that, after returning from spring break or the summer hiatus, professors or students that stayed remark about how great the campus was. Nevertheless, the first thing you will hear about Millsaps is the beautiful campus, and that has a lot to do with a forecast that frequently illuminates it.

The weather isn’t crazy or anything, but the school makes it worse. The classrooms are stuffy, and the dorm rooms are freezing. I have left my dorm room in winter clothes and then had to go back and change because it’s piping hot outside. |

You might get the impression that people are always sweating in Mississippi from movies. Most of the time the weather’s very cooperative and temperate. |

I have a hectic schedule, and I sometimes have to squeeze time in at the HAC or just jog around campus. The weather would really get in the way, I think, if it were too hot or too cold. It’s just right for athletics. |

Depending on where you’re from, the weather is strange. People from the Northeast say it gets surprisingly cold here. The students from the Southeast say it’s hotter here than where they’re from. It’s always more extreme in Jackson than it was last year. I have just come to think Millsaps is afflicted with selective memory. |

It’s my favorite part. The campus is so pretty in the spring. It does get pretty cold in the winter, though. Nobody has to go buy new clothes because of the weather, however, because it’s not that cold. Most of the time, students walk around in scarves and mittens when it’s barely 60. |
