There is campus-wide wifi that is quite fast and very reliable. I love that students are offered remote access to the school's network, allowing use of things like Microsoft Office, which we may not be able to purchase or obtain on our own. There are multiple locations on campus providing free computer and printer use, and the hardware there is of good quality.

The campus, in general, is lovely. MiraCosta is definitely the nicest community college I have ever seen. The grounds are modern, green, and clean, so it is a pleasure to stay on campus between or after classes. Everything works most of the time, and someone is on the scene at once if something is reported malfunctioning. The dining facility offers food that is actually enjoyable, as well as affordable. My two complaints, though, are that only kinesiology and students of related majors are allowed access to the gymnasium, and the library is not extraordinarily stocked with reads for leisure. The online library, however, is great! Students can very conveniently access academic journals and other publications, and are even provided help in citing them.

MiraCosta is located just 4 miles from Oceanside Beach, where surfers, families, young couples, and just about everyone else can be found soaking up the California sun.

A notable characteristic of my school is its military population. Many students are active duty, veterans, or spouses or children of military members, and the college provides many resources specifically tailored to these individuals. Generally, students at MiraCosta have families or jobs besides being a student. These other occupations are various, reflecting the diversity of the students. MiraCosta's student body includes concurrent high school students, students also enrolled at another college, men and women returning to school after several years, those changing careers, and seniors.

I started an on campus course but it seems that most of my course work and assignments are all online. This wasn't really the idea that I had for "on-campus" classes. However, when I am in class I feel that the professor is giving me the exact experience to the best of her ability that I am seeking.

The online courses are fair at Mira Costa College. It would serve any new student well to check the rate my professor website prior to enrolling in any online courses. I have experienced both good and bad online courses while attending Mira Costa College and if the student is able to read other students comments they may be better able to better anticipate the work load and commitment online courses require. After taking a few online courses a student will get a feel for online learning and most likely be able to earn a good grade as well as retain the material learned.

Mira Costa College has a decent computer labs on the first and second floors of their library (as well as computer rooms made available for classes sporadically placed about the school). In the library there is usually an assistant available that can help you with any technical difficulties which may arise while there. There are printers available for 10 cents a page (black and white) and 1 dollar a page (color). There is also a math lab filled with computers, as well as tutors, which are only to be used for math. This provides a nice place to get your math learning on!

The Counseling department has meetings 2-3 weeks out. During drop-in hours you rarely get see a counselor. When you do finally get a meeting with the counselor one will tell you a different thing than the last one. This can be a big deal because meetings are few and much classwork to advance towards your educational goals follows these meetings; make sure you confirm from an outside source if you follow any educational objectives given by the counseling department.

There is free wireless, which for most people is helpful. I have not had any issues with the computer network. The computer lab is centrally located on campus, along with the library and tutor rooms. 9 times out of 10 there is always a free computer... unless it's close to midterms or finals.

There are so many resources at MiraCosta that are directed toward helping students to succeed and become prepared for transfer or for a job. There is free tutoring in all subjects and there is a writing and math center. There are also many ways to help with financial aid and other such needs to make going to school easier. There are also councilors that are very knowledgeable and helpful in directing each student in the right way toward their goal. This is just to name a few.

I'm a music major, and it has been a great experience. The education level here is top notch. All of the music professors are very experienced and renowned. I have found that when looking at other University music programs in the area that ours is often better even though we only need to pay $47 a unit! The GE classes are also strong, but like any school, there are some bad professors. Just check all of your professors on professor rating websites and you will not be cheated out is a university level education at a fraction of the price.

I think that they have great campus resources. It's easy to meet with a counselor because they allow walk-ins. They have free tutoring for every subject and very knowledgeable research librarians to help you with any research papers. The staff is very supportive if you have any learning disabilities. I got connected with other students and found academic support very easily.

MiraCosta is a great college. The teachers were fantastic at working around things that might come up in the semester. It was also really easy to get classes I needed that fit around my work schedule.

The school has a laid back attitude and yet runs at a full tilt in every aspect.

Everything above is excellent and is smooth in almost every facet.

The facilities are in a transitional phase where classrooms are often contrasted with the incredibly old and the incredibly new
College Junior 2013-08-05T17:00:07Z
I'm a computer science major, though the mathematics department hires new teachers that haven't been teaching sufficiently long enough the overall classes from the school are excellent and the teachers care a lot about you and your grades

You have to get used to how each teacher works their own online class. It might take a while but once you get into the groove of things it's pretty simple.

Everyone is nice. The only problem is the smoking.

Overall, MiraCosta lends itself to a great academic experience. If you're able to get into the Honors Program, your experience will be even better. Smaller classes, in-depth study, attentive professors, and transcript notation upon completion of the program (helpful when transferring to a 4-year!!) are what the Honors Program offers, and it's worth the effort to get accepted into it!
College Sophomore 2013-07-29T06:41:10Z
Overall, the availability of classes is pretty decent and if you're a working student (like most here are) there are a lot of online classes or evening classes you can get into. However, there are some classes that are only offered once or twice and/or right in the middle of the day, which makes it a little challenging as a working student to find a way to rearrange your schedule in order to complete all the necessary GE courses for IGETC or CSU transfer prep.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
