Academics are the strongest part of Missouri Southern. The school has put a lot of effort into funding new buildings with state of the art equipment for Nursing, Science, and Business majors. At least half of the professors have a doctorate and are incredibly knowledgeable on various subjects. Many of them are eccentric as well, which makes for more interesting classes. Homework isn't much of an issue until you are an upperclassman. It seems like seniors get a whole lot more work dumped on them, but that is somewhat expected. The best study areas are actually not in the library, unless you get a private room. It's better to look for major specific lounges around campus. Many of the buildings have 3 floors, and the hallways often have study nooks that aren't in use. They are good except during class passing times. Registration is possibly the most frustrating topic concerning academics, but it isn't really that bad either. You just need to keep communicating with your academic adviser, and they'll take care of most of your issues. Overall MSSU is pretty sweet as far as academics are concerned.

Being an art major at Southern is challenging, but it definitely has perks. There aren't many students who go for this degree field, so you know that your teachers can give you more attention, and therefore be better mentors. With that said, the department seems to be lacking funding from the school, and a lot of the computers have become outdated. This isn't helpful for Graphic Design majors. One could argue that the lack of funding does generate a more creative environment, as you must be able to creatively problem solve your way through some assignments. The professors are laid back, but they'll also tell you when to get your butt in gear if you're slacking. Overall the department is pretty good. It just needs some touch-ups as far as funding goes.

The professors are great, they don't overload you with home work because they understand that your taking other classes or have work outside of class like many students do. They are flexible with your work schedule, like when I had to work overtime for a week my professors were understanding and helped me get caught up.

All professors are very knowledgable in their subject area.

I loved the education program at Southern. The classes were small and I received lots of individualized instruction.
