Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Anyone used to gourmet meals should be forewarned: you are in Montana now, so get used to a lot of meat and potatoes. The amazing thing about the cafeterias at MSU is the creativity the workers have in making new dishes out of these two ingredients. There are three dining halls (usually referred to as “food service” by students) on campus, and none are very good. Your two choices when eating at University Food Service are to either eat things that taste good but carry loads of fat and sugar (Freshman 15, anyone?), or eat as healthy as possible but hardly be able to choke down the food. Many students do not find either option terribly appealing. The dining halls all have mediocre salad bars and an all-you-can-eat cafeteria, which usually contain a variety of very bland foods. Vegetarians should also be warned that they will be eating a lot of bagels and quesadillas, as the vegetarian options offered are often worse than the rest of the fare.

For catching a good meal on campus, many students choose Avogadro’s Number, a decent wrap restaurant known for its interesting combinations of food, located in the student union. A first-year student’s best bet is to choose the five-day meal plan rather than the week-long meal plan. This way, they save money on room and board and can go out for delicious meals around town on the weekends.

Pretty Decent Food

The food at MSU is normally cooked on the day its given out. There are three main dining halls and they all have their own personality. The largest is Miller, where most of the mass food is made but still decently good. Harrison is across campus from Miller and also is about the same if not better than Miller. The best dining hall is Hannon because it is smaller and much easier for the cooks with less of a crowd.

Overall, The food here is great. I love the different options, but I do wish there were more healthy options to eat. In general some of the better campus food i have eaten.

MSU Eats

The dining options on msu kinda suck. dining halls are open only until 7. we're not a bunch of senior citizens. i dont even start getting hungry until 7:30 or 8. and if you have a late class youre screwed. plus the meal options are mediocre at best. the food is decent if you like what theyre serving.
