College Prowler Take
The campus police normally avoid causing problems for students, as long as they are not hurting anyone or being an obvious disturbance. However, anyone can look at the police reports each time the newspaper comes out and read a few sentences about a couple of students walking across campus with open containers of alcohol. A surprisingly high number of students somehow think they can get away with this, and it remains a constant plague on the cops. As long as students are not brazenly breaking the law, they will not get a ticket, just a warning. The campus police are generally good-natured and understand that the trivial little problems students cause will not do any real damage to the campus or its residents.
The RAs tend to be a bigger source of write-ups than the police are. While some of them will pretend not to hear the shouts of, “Pass me another beer!” emitting from your room, others will be suspicious of any closed door. The best way to avoid a trip to the judicial boards is to keep the doors closed and stay relatively quiet while drinking. It is also good to keep in mind that RAs and residents are not allowed to party together, even off campus. Living in the dorms is definitely more restrictive than living off campus.

I’ve heard horror stories about the cops in Missoula, but we’ve never had any problems with them here. They do their jobs, but aren’t malicious about it. |

I think the campus police have...
I think the campus police have managed to strike the perfect balance between helping students and punishing students. They’re not going to go banging on doors if they hear something about alcohol, but they might give you a big citation if you go knock on their doors and shove a bottle of Jack under their noses. |

People might hate me for saying this, but I actually think the police could be more strict concerning one thing: drinking. It happens everywhere, both on and off campus, and people usually just get a slap on the wrist. |

Campus police are definitely not...
Campus police are definitely not doing their job when it comes to stopping drinking and drug use, but problems aren’t arising that often that call for a major change to be made in campus policies. |

The only solid evidence of cops I’ve encountered are the police reports—everyone has to read the police reports because they are so incredibly funny. |
