Parking Permits
Compared to most college campuses, and even some high schools, parking at MSU is relatively cheap. Getting a permit is usually no problem whatsoever and just takes a quick trip to the University Police.
College Prowler Take
MSU does not have an ideal parking system, and students are starting to complain. The majority of students, including freshmen, drive, and that requires a lot of space for lots. The school is trying to solve this problem at the moment and plans to do so by building a parking garage or by following the advice of ASMSU and improving the bus and shuttle system on campus, which will hopefully encourage alternative transportation and lessen the need for parking lots.
Students who choose not to bring a car to school are usually happy with their decision. They get to cut a $100-plus dollar parking permit out of their expenses, as well as the hassle of finding a spot in any of the overcrowded lots. Those students with cars usually end up getting so frustrated that at one point or another, they give in to their road rage and park illegally on one of the neighboring streets, feeling the $15 ticket is worth it.

Let’s just say that a popular bumper sticker at MSU reads: ‘If you see my professor, tell him I’m still looking for a parking spot!’ |

During class times, it is really hard to get parking spots on the hour, and I would never want to drive to school. If you live on campus, things are a bit easier because you’re there at weird hours, but if you have a place off campus, then riding your bike is much faster, even if you live four miles away. |

Supposedly, parking is not a fun experience, but I wouldn’t know because I choose to do what most other students do: ride my bike. |

Parking may be hard to find, but at least it’s cheap. My high school parking permit cost more than my MSU one. |

Finding a parking spot on campus is about as likely as surviving a 50-foot drop. |
Did You Know?
Best Places to Find a Parking Spot:
The Hedges lot, one of the largest on campus, almost always has some open spaces, but they are usually far away from the dorms. For those students watching their checkbooks, it is possible to find a spot off campus—just be willing to walk a few extra blocks, and make sure you don’t park where a resident parking sign is present.
Good Luck Getting a Parking Spot Here:
Pretty much anywhere on the northeast side of campus, where the lowrises are, is always full.
