College Prowler Take

At MSU, most students seem to feel generally safe and have few qualms about staying late at the library, then walking home bleary-eyed. The campus has no blue-light centers where students can pick up a phone and get campus police. The cops patrol the campus in the cars throughout the night, but as there are only streets around the perimeter of the Centennial Mall, where the majority of buildings are, they would not be able to see anything happening behind the SUB or Montana Hall. Despite the lack of security, many still find MSU to be a secure place.

The school does a much better job trying to keep drunk driving down, one of the biggest criminal problems in Montana. The Cat Cab is always available to pick up students from parties, no questions asked. As the campus is surrounded by nice, safe neighborhoods, students will sometimes choose to walk back to their dorms if the party is nearby. And while the residents of these nice neighborhoods do not usually enjoy hearing a bunch of drunk college students laughing and singing outside their windows, they do understand that Bozeman is a college town and rarely report anyone for causing a small disturbance.

For the most part, they do a really good job. I’ve seen statistics that show that crime is down for the area, and the stricter atmosphere of the dorms prevents anything really bad from happening on campus.
