The student population at Montclair is fairly diverse, making it a bit hard to generalize the interactions. The average student is, well, average—not gorgeous but not mousy either, though there are some of both to be seen. People meet friends and other students mostly in class, through organizations, or in on-campus housing; there are also some students here who have known each other since high school. Relationships and hook-ups grow out of these casual friendships, for the most part.
There are more girls than guys here, but since many MSU students live off campus, they are not limited to the campus population for relationships, and the ratio of guys and girls doesn't seem to affect the dating scene at all. Some on-campus residents complain that the dorms seem to be uneven in their male-to-female distributions; however, residents can—and do—date commuters. Sexually promiscuous students are probably in the majority, but many of these students end up in serious relationships in the end. Hookups can be found, as well as drunken one-night stands, but they’re not everywhere.
