The campus is spread throughout a few block radius of downtown Monterey. Monterey is a small ocean side town with culture.

There are many choices for dining from seafood to Indian.

The off campus housing though expensive compared to other regions is in one of the most beautiful areas of California.

There is absolutely no drug problem among MIIS students.

Housing in Monterey is fairly nice--especially compared to Santa Cruz, on the other side of the bay--and not too hard to come by.On average, it's not cheap, but there are some decent affordable options. Contact the school or use its Facebook page for new students to find a tolerable roommate--you'll find something without a problem!

There is no campus housing at MIIS. The school does a great job helping students find off-campus housing, though!

Guys & Girls:
Guys and girls at MIIS come from all over the world and vary widely in age. Many are straight out of undergrad, and many others have years of professional experience. If you're into languages and looking to make international friends, MIIS is the place to be.

There are barely any athletics found on campus. I have seen a few loosely organized groups but they are always student organized. There are no school organized sports.

Good Quality Professors – The professors are truly invested in teaching students. Their research interests/projects do not inhibit them from devoting time to teaching and making sure that students understand class concepts/ideas. I would definitely recommend my professors to other students. They not only help me educationally, but also professionally.

Because the student body is small, there are only a few computer labs on campus. All of the labs offer PCs, but do not have Macs because of the programs that students in certain programs need to use. I think it would be useful to create a computer lab with Mac computers. Our campus is trying to become green, so students are limited to $200 worth of printing each semester. This amount is enough for students each semester and cuts back on the amount of paper used not only by students, but also faculty, and staff.

Small Town – Monterey is a small town, but has a lot to offer for outdoor lovers. There are hiking trails, bike trail, kayaking, snorkeling, and camping opportunities for everyone. San Francisco is a two-hour drive north and offers students the great opportunity to get away from a small town and enjoy city-life. Unfortunately, the transportation from Monterey to other cities, especially San Francisco can be quite pricey, so that is why I rate it a B.

Diverse Student Body – The school attracts students from not only the United States, but all over the world. There is a wide array of students from different backgrounds and different countries. This allows students to immerse themselves in a culturally and ethnically strong environment.

Career Prospects – For language junkies, Monterey is about as good as it gets in the United States. Programs are available for common as well as critical language combinations (i.e. Asian). The State Department and other organizations regularly recrute here, and graduate can be found throughout the world (Washington, New York, Brussels etc.)

Public Transport – Monterey county has a fairly good bus system so it's possible to live in surrounding communities and commute to campus. Some communities can even be reached by bike.

Coming from the Southeast, it's nice to live in an environment that stays mild throughout the year. Humidity is virtually non-existent which tends to zap less energy for studying.

Since Conference Interpreting is a stressful career track, Monterey, California is the perfect location for students looking to enjoy nature and unwind after a week of classes.
