Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Montreat isn't just an education—it's an experience. The classes are informative, taught by knowledgeable faculty who truly care about the welfare of the students. The staff is helpful, as well. Before school starts, maintenance and housekeeping work full time to prepare the buildings for the students. Administrative staff makes sure Montreat is as welcoming an environment as possible for students, organizing a plethora of activities, including dances and service opportunities for both orientation and the rest of the semester—all while working to make sure students are properly registered. The campus counselor and nurse personally talk to students and their parents about health concerns, including handicaps, allergies, sports injuries, and the best way to manage any health problems while at school. The campus police patrol Montreat to ensure its safety, and the RDs organize meetings early in the semester to go over safety policies; the police come and meet the students so that students know who to look for on campus.

The College’s personal interest in each student’s success is amazing on both an institutional and individual level. When a student misses a class, it is not uncommon for the professor to follow up and make sure the student is OK. The faculty carefully organizes class schedules and curricula to maximize benefits to the students, often asking the students what they want to get out of the class and then helping them achieve those goals, even if it means a deviation from the original schedule. Montreat’s active interest in both the current and future success of students is otherworldly. Superhuman efforts by the staff and faculty have brought about benefits such as in-class writing tutors, internships, and incredible student trips that give students the best that Montreat can offer.

Drug Safety at Montreat College

Bad experience

From what I can tell, there aren't many drug incidents on campus. But I had a bit of a run in with someone who has a drug problem and the school didn't handle the situation very well. I was pretty much on my own. I guess the take away message is to be careful. Just because it's a Christian school doesn't mean everyone acts like a Christian.

Campus Dining at Montreat College

Very Hit or Miss.... mostly miss

I understand that cafeteria food is cafeteria food but I wouldn't feed some of this food to my dog. Sometimes they have ok food but half of it isn't worth eating. General rule of thumb- if you can't ID it, don't eat it. The Huck generally has good food but the choices are limited.

Program

Workload in a creative writing major is actually relatively easy. I have work to do, but it is work that I usually finish quickly, and has required MUCH less time than my general ed courses have.
