Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Parking on Montreat's campus is fairly easy, thanks to the campus's small size. With several lots available and smaller strips along the road, it is relatively painless to find a parking space. The space may not be where you want it—for example, the mini-lot for Howerton Hall is often full when you need it—but students can almost always find one within a couple of minutes from their destination. It's one of the advantages of living on a small campus.

Parking fees are $100 per year, when you register your vehicle for parking on any of the campuses. This works out well for students studying subjects like elementary education, since many of the classes are on local satellite campuses. Temporary passes are available for free for visitors or students driving a loaner while theirs is in the shop. The $100 fee is per person, not per vehicle, so students alternating between driving their own and their parents' or hubby's car don't have to worry about doubled fees. The campus police ticket students who are driving an unregistered vehicle, and since registration is quick and painless, it is best to fill out and return the form that Student Services mails out at the beginning of the semester rather than wait until later. For students who buy a car partway through the semester and didn't get to register it before, there are forms available in the Student Services office for quick registration. The fees are automatically charged to the student bill, so there is no hassle in signing extra checks or bringing money to New Student Orientation for check-in. Although the parking fee is steep, it covers the whole school year, and the registration process is easy.

Need a Car on Campus?

I must say, attending Montreat College I've realized very quickly that you will not need a car on campus at all. All of the facilities on campus are within five minutes of walking distance. Our campus is very safe, so you wouldn't have to worry about if you should be concerned when walking alone.

Getting a Parking Permit

Getting a parking sticker at Montreat is quick and easy. Forms are mailed before the beginning of the semester (and are available in the Student Services office) so that they can be filled out and returned to the office. The information that is required is basic: the driver's name, the vehicle owner's name, personal information (such as the driver's address), a vehicle description, and the license plate number. The $100 parking fee is automatically charged to the student bill for easy payment. Temporary parking passes for overnight guests are available for free upon request in the Student Services office.

Did You Know?
  • The $100 parking fee is per person, not per vehicle—so if you're not sure whether you'll be driving your truck or your four-door, you can get stickers for both and be covered either way.
  • The $100 parking fee is automatically charged to your student bill and included in the payments—which means no extra hassles in sending in checks or calling in your card number.
