Social Scene
For many students, the social scene does not include guys at all, or if it does, their role is limited to cameo appearances in a class that meets twice a week. However, for those who do want to meet guys, the places to look are at the three colleges in the area that have them: Hampshire, Amherst, and UMass. It is definitely possible to meet someone while at MHC (and for those students who prefer romance with women, it is more than definitely possible), although campus parties that attract mostly men looking to get drunk and possibly laid are not the best places to look for anyone who will make a lasting commitment. Social life on campus is mostly rather laid-back, which is good for those who want to avoid the wild side, but many do exercise their creativity in this area and host dorm room parties that rival anything you'll find somewhere else.
Hookups or Relationships?
If you're really looking for a random hookup, you can probably find one off campus, if not on campus. However, a lot of students are in serious relationships. Many come to college already in a long-distance relationship. and those who aren't often find someone while at college. This happens to such an extent that one can begin to wonder whether anyone is still single.
Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls
It all depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a woman, chances are you'll find her while you're engaged in your daily activities: perhaps she's the person who sits next to you in class, or the person who lives down the hall from you. If you're looking for a man, try taking a class or joining a club at another college. These are probably the best, least risky ways to go, although they don't guarantee success (but then again, nothing really does). If you're looking for something a bit wilder, try going to a UMass frat party or to TAP (The Amherst Party, mostly full of beer and beer-drinking guys, but hey, it's almost an initiation rite to say you've been there once). You will find guys there, and you might even find a good one-once you're both sober.
Dress Code
There is no dress code at Mount Holyoke. Many women feel comfortable wearing their pajamas to class. Some will dress up-not many, but enough so that those who do aren't stared at as if they were some sort of freak. Basically, you can wear anything you want, from cloaks and Renaissance dresses, to short skirts and makeup, to old sweatshirts and baseball caps-and it'll be fine. No worries about whether or not you have the latest fashions. Of course, most students you will see will be wearing the typical shirt and jeans, thrown on five minutes before going off to class, but that's because we're college students.
