Mount Vernon, Ohio is a small town, so there are not many transportation options. Students usually bring a vehicle to campus since parking passes are free, and they often hitch rides from a friend, too. Since the addition of the Buchwald Center and Hunter Hall in the square of Mount Vernon (for students taking nursing or art classes), MVNU has started the campus shuttle service. Students are emailed a list of the times the shuttle service departs at the beginning of each semester, but they usually ignore the list if they don't take the courses offered in these buildings.
The shuttle service is free and usually the only mode of transportation a student will take besides riding with a friend or riding in a personal vehicle. To get to classes on campus, commuters can drive to the chapel parking lot, but residential students cannot drive vehicles. Because of this, students can be seen biking to classes instead of walking the maximum 10-minute walk to class. If a student doesn't have a car on campus, friendships usually allow access to a car or a ride if needed.
