The student body consists of working class parents, students right out of college, and students in high school. There is a diversity of many people, the majority of the students are very friendly.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
The education I am getting is well worth the price I am paying. I love the fact that I do not have to spend a fortune for a good education. The people in the financial aid office are somewhat helpful, make sure you stay on top of them and always ask questions.

The school really has an abundance of classes and programs to be offered ranging from nursing, to criminal justice, to end just a general studies certification. The campus is four large buildings all is close range with one another so parking at any of the parking lots around campus isn't a hassle to walk even to the furthest building. Meaning small size, the professors really get to have a one on one relationship with the student. I'm my experience at mountain empire my classes have never been above a 50 student count which is really nice. The only down fall is the class registration is online, in my 3rd semester now, I have the system pretty much figured out but for all new students I've known with myself included, have struggled majorly to get classes added and signed up for.

Mountain empire offers a system called blackboard and through this you can summit work, communicate with the teacher, back and forth with students and also view your grades in all on convenient location. It was nice not having an instructor to deal with hands on, but also nice to still get the materials covered as they would have in a classroom setting. The workload was very much like a weekly class and very easy to follow along with expected assignments.

Mountain empire has gone above my expectation of a well accredited nursing program. I haven't had to take any crazy electives not associated with my major. It really makes me feel like I'm not wasting my time and really on a fast track for my degree.

While the library offers a decent amount of computers, there is not a wide variety of books to choose from. There are the basic books but if you need detailed book for a topic, you will have to get online for that. The "athletic center" offers a short supply of workout equipment.

There is a grill here, so there is always good food. This grill also offers a place to hangout and study when there is a break. There is also a game room that offers restitution when you have had a long day of studying and tests.

Although it is really easy to sign into the wireless network that is offered here, there are a decent amount of problems. The network crashes a lot! This becomes a hassle, especially when you need the wifi to complete a paper on your personal computer.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
My financial aid completely covered everything I needed at Mountain Empire. I was also a part of the Aim's Higher Scholarship program, so this also helped me out in the financial aid. It was super easy setup.

I had never taken an online class before, so I was kind of nervous. Although, it was confusing at first once I was used to how it worked I loved it. It isn't very hard to stay up to date with the classes either. The teacher was readily available whenever I had a question through email.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
Mountain Empire Community College is the best "bang for you buck" as far as tuition and financial aid is concerned. The financial aid officer there is one of the friendliest and helpful I've had the pleasure of dealing with and made the experience a lot smoother and easier. The only negative comment I have is the long probationary appeals however the financial aid office will work with you on those too.

The campus resources are wonderful at my college. The computer labs are always open and printing is never a problem. The internet always works perfectly.

The student center is a great aspect of my college. They are very helpful and will answer any questions. The library is also very nice, with lots of resources.

I chose this school because it is academically challenging and all of the college staff are very helpful and friendly. This college has been enjoyable to attend and I am glad I attend here.

Advisor a Blessing – My advisor has worked with me on several occasions to help me with scheduling. She has saw me when I didn't have an appointment and she has returned phone calls when I have concerns. She is helping me to finalize a degree I started in 97, but couldn't finish because of a bad marriage. She is helping me with my new degree. Many of the prior classes are transferring and working toward my current degree. She is a huge asset to my success with college.

Facilities Are Nice – The bathrooms are always clean, the hallways, and the outside landscape always looks nice. Our college isn't a campus students live on either, but it is also a grand place to be attending college. The libary is available and the staff their quick to help. The lunch area is clean the staff is nice and your food is served quickly and it is not to expensive. The bookstore staff is always helpful. Beth a staff person always sends us listings of the latest jobs in our areas. Wow this is a wonderful benefit the college gives to us and free of charge. Thank God for our rural area college that offers so much. The many different four year college degrees that are offered to us right there on MECC campus is a wonderful asset.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
They Got It Going – I can not afford to attend college and if I wasn't blessed to get help with financial aid then a college education for me would not be happening. The college lets you know through email any updates about your financial aid. The other day I had a situation come up and went to the college Sherrie guided me through the steps to get the problem resolved within fifteen minutes. I hadn't heard a response so I emailed her within close of the business day she had responded in detail what needed to be done.

My sister and brother have both attended MECC. My sister was involved in Americorp. She had a project due with the group in Haysi VA painting a school and other repairs. Our family turned it into a family event and seven of us went there to help the group. I was impressed how a few students would reach out to others and accomplish so much at that school.

Well Balanced – If a known upgrade is scheduled the college and each teacher sends out an email that the system will be down and they tell the time frame. One night because of storms our computer was down for awhile during computer class. The teacher continued on with the lesson plan and worked around the issue. The problem was resolved within thirty minutes.

Being from a rural area most people from out of state feel we are country hicks. All the staff at MECC strife to see success from these mountain folks. The bookstore staff, the testing center, the parking sticker attendant, the teachers, financial aid and all others I have come incontact with are willing to help me to success with my education.

Pre-Teacher Education Major – I am enrolled in the Pre-Teacher Education Major. I have 1 more year at Mountain Empire and then will have to transfer to a university for my bachelors degree. I believe the program at MECC has helped me to get adjusted to college life before transferring to a university. The workload is very managable.

I have not taken any online courses yet but have friends that have and they did very well in them.
College Junior 2012-05-26T23:24:39Z
Faculty and Staff Are Very Helpfull in the Students Success – The college offers a wide range of different academics and I feel Mountain Empire is a very important to our community. They offer much lower tuition than a large university. They have an excellent nursing program and other programs that would fit the needs of almost anyone in our area.

Tuition & Financial Aid:
I recieved financial aid until this past semister. I have worked my way up the ladder in nursing school going from CNA classes, to LPN, and now am in the RN program. While this may make me a better nurse, it has however made it impossible for me to continue financial aid through completion of my associate degree in nursing. I am past the max credits. The tuition is standard and the financial aid manager is who I have my thanks to give to for making sure I had tuition covered for this semister as well as previous scholarship awards.

Appalachian Tricollege Nursing Program at MECC. The Appalachaian Tricollege Nursing program is a very vigorous program. Students learn with hands on assignments and are challenged to think critically. Students go into the field with a good understanding of what is expected of them and how to perform skills accurately and professionally.
