College Prowler Take

As a freshman, you have three options: Prosser, Walz, and Brown. Brown is the all-girls dorm with high ceilings and huge windows. If you don’t mind the quiet atmosphere and lack of guys, you should probably try for Brown. Walz is typically the most desired of the dorms, and is actually even nicer than a lot of the options for upperclassmen. It is the newest of the freshmen dorms, has the biggest rooms, and is the only one that is air conditioned. Do not be overly distressed if you end up in Prosser; you will be in good company since it is the largest of the dorms on campus. Sure, you share your bathroom with the most people, and it is constantly loud in the hallways, but you will never feel lonely and are sure to meet a lot of people while standing outside during the inevitable fire alarms set off by someone’s burnt popcorn.

Housing freshman year is supposedly based on how soon you turn in your deposit with your housing preferences. For this reason, a large portion of Walz is made up of students who applied early decision. Although some people are upset if they aren’t placed in their first choice, most people are able to make the best of their situation because there are benefits to each of the dorms. Some are newer and bigger than others, but there are very few rooms in any of the dorms on campus that are unbearable. Everyone is eager to meet people during this first year, so you will be able to make friends anywhere you live. After freshman year, you enter the lottery system, which is perhaps the most dramatic time of year on campus. It suddenly seems that your friendships and happiness for the entire next year come down to depending on one number that you receive in your mailbox at random. Housing after freshman year at Muhlenberg is varied and really depends on your luck in the lottery. During housing, remember to do as much research as you can before choosing a room and to try to stay friends with those who have better numbers.

I think you can manage to be happy in any dorm Muhlenberg has to offer. There are positive and negative things about each when you get right down to it. Even though it’s a small campus, it makes things feel so much cozier when you can just wander to your friend’s room at all hours.

The dorms are mostly nice. As a freshman, definitely try to get into Walz. There is air-conditioning, big rooms, and it is just very nice.

I loved living in Prosser my freshman year; I wouldn’t trade the experience I had there. I am still friends with the people who lived on my floor!

Overall, the dorms are in excellent condition. In Taylor, each double is equipped with air-conditioning and a bathroom. South and Robertson have a galley kitchen, living room, four bedrooms, and a bathroom. Even the older buildings, such as Brown and East, are pretty nice for the most part. In Brown and East, each room is different, giving them character. East does have a bug problem.

I have lived in Prosser, Brown, Walz, Martin Luther, and East, so I have had my fair share of housing experiences. I think that each dorm has both good and bad points. I really liked living in the Prosser Annex freshman year. Our whole floor became really close; yet, Main Prosser was right out the door if we wanted to see what was going on in the main hall.
