College Prowler Take
While some students complain that campus police are out to catch students, most feel that their punishments are fair. There are stories about people being angry because they got fined for having empty bottles or shot glasses in their room, but this typically only happens to people who are also getting busted for other things. Students need to be smart about what they do; if you’re going to be involved in things that you know you could get in trouble for, don’t advertise it. If you keep your door shut and keep the noise to a minimum, it’s rare that campus police will give you a hard time. Also, remember to remove anything from your dorms that could give campus police a reason to fine you before going home on breaks. While it’s not very likely that it will be spotted, there is always a chance that the wrong person might see it.
Students should remember that campus police are there to protect them, not to look for ways to bust them. Recently, there has been some concern on campus about the rise in alcohol use among freshmen. For this reason, campus police seem to have been increasing their surveillance of the freshman dorms. Overall, the college seems to recognize that college is a place where students are going to test their freedom. They are there to step in when it’s needed, but they also give students some leeway.

If you are smart about where and when you drink and don’t create a scene, the campus police don’t greatly interfere with our lives. |

Campus police are pretty strict about freshmen drinking; they’ve been known to bust up quite a few parties. At the same time, no one pretends that Muhlenberg is a dry campus. Students who are over 21 are allowed to have alcohol in their rooms. The school seems to recognize that college is college, and that students are going to drink. They try to promote responsibility. |

It’s a college. Campus police know that students are going to be exposed to alcohol. They know we are going to have nights where we get really loud even though it’s late at night. You just have to be smart about it. If they tell you to stop, listen to them. If you’re a jerk, they’ll bust you whenever they can. |

Every once in a while, the school...
Every once in a while, the school will really crack down. Like this past year, there were some problems with a lot of freshmen going overboard with drinking. When it comes to that though, wouldn’t we rather them be strict than see a bunch of freshmen killing themselves? |

I’ve never had any problems with campus police. Some people complain, but if you get busted, it’s probably your own fault. I feel like you have to be pretty dumb for them to really give you a hard time. |
